Lavh 4 1/2 Wks Still In Pain Help !!

Well this really sucks big time.... doc said that i shouldn't be having any more pain, but I still have lots of it. I have also been on 4 different antibiotic's for an infection. Doc thinks that I have an absess??? Has anyone else had an abcess?? This is scaring me b/c doc said that I may have to go back into the hospital again.

Aleaha..I am so sorry you are having this pain...it doesn't seem right to me that you would have to go four rounds of antibiotics and still not feel good...if the doc suspects an abcess, why is he not doing more tests..cat scan or something to tell for sure....I would insist that he get to the bottom of it and find out what it is...hopefully someone else will come on here that may have gone thru this, but I believe I read a few posts where the cat scans or ultrasounds were able to show what was going on....good luck..let us know how it goes...I would not wait, I would pester him with phone calls until he can tell you yes or no as far as the abcess.....

I have a CT scan for wed at 4PM. He said that if I don't feel any better by wed that he was going to put me back in the hospital.... yuck!!!! I'm scared that I will have to go thorugh another surgery. I don't want to have to do that again. But if I do have a abcess, how do they get rid of that???

I am not sure, that is why I am hoping someone else will come aboard and answer...I am glad that you have your appointment scheduled...I am not sure if they can just drain an abcess...I have heard of that, I guess it would depend where it is located.....lets hope by then it miracously disappears.....any other ladies out here that can help???

Lavh 4 1/2 Wks Still In Pain Help !!

I had an abcess after having breast reduction surgery at the ripe old age of 15. Once the abcess was discovered, it got opened to air and packed w/antibiotic gauze. I was admitted to the hospital as the infection had spread to my blood. For 2 weeks, i recvd antibiotics thru an iv, and I had the packing changed a couple of times per day. I really started feeling better about the third day in the hospital.

I was admitted into the hospital for four days due to an abcess...it is infact extremely painful. On the fourth day they did another CT scan and said the size had shrunk as well as my white blood count dropped so they sent me home with toms of anitbotics...I then broke out in a rash from head to toe and they had to cange the antibotics...I feel drained today but i notice some improvement, there is still alot of tenderness where the abcess had been, i have an appointment for folow up next week.

You will be in my prayers.

I'm glad that your out of the hospital and doing better, my ct scan is tomorow and scared of what they will find, on top of that I also have a bladder infection that they think has moved into my kidney's. They have had me on 4 different kinds of antibotics, but so far nothing, now lower back pain is so bad that it hurts to sit stand lay down ..... i was hoping that after the surgery that I would move forward, but i guess that was wishfull thinking. I'm very depressed about all this, i've nevr been a sickly person, but i don't understand why I can't get ride of all this....grrrrrrrrrrrr. sorry for the rant, just very very fustrated .....xoxoxo aleaha

Lavh 4 1/2 Wks Still In Pain Help !!

Hello Aleaha,
I also had an abcess after a surgery I had in january this year. My TAH was in october 2005, but in january they discovered that my ovaries (the only thing they left inside me) were creating cysts so they had to open me up again. During that surgery they gave me an epidural to control the pain post-op.
Something went wrong so I ended up with an 4.5cm abcess in my spinal-channel from a Staph. infection.

My abcess was discovered by a MR-scan and they immediately put me in surgery again. My problem was that the docs didnt believe something was wrong so it had time to develop this far. I walked around with it for over 6 weeks.

What I am trying to say is dont worry about the scan - it doesnt hurt.
If you are taken back to the hospital then it is for the best, and they will help you and the pain goes away with the abcess.
They "fixed" me with surgery and 100 days straight of IV-antibiotics and another 6 weeks of oral antibiotics.
My story is a "worst case scenario" and very very seldom, but I am still here and still walking around eventhough we at times thought I would never walk again.

I was never a sickly person either and therefor thought this was something I just had to work myself through so....Keep ranting!! Get the doctors to sort you out so you can move on to getting better, and there is nothing wrong in being frustrated in your situation:-)

I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you will feel better soon.

Lots of hugs from Denmark:-)
