post op hip pain

Hello,
I am new to this so bear with me. I had abdominal hyst on Oct 1 and ever since I have had pain on and below my hip bones. Right after surgery, there was bruising there too. My doc says it could be from the operating table, what does that mean??? Any answers???
Thanks.

Hello Hysterhelp42,
I felt a lot of pain there too after my TAH.
My incision was from hip to hip and they kept my ovaries but moved them around a bit. In the beginning they thought my pain was due to having brushed the Femoral-nerve, but now we have found out that it possibly could be due to the new position of my ovaries, as well as muscular problems due to tensing up in the area due to pain.

I had some bruising too, but I later found out that was the result of retractors they use during surgery.

I was helped a lot by physiotherapy, a special one that specialized in women-"troubles", and I actually got lots of help having acupuncture. I also had painkillers, but could cut back on those with the help of both the physio and the acupuncture. I truely dont believe in alternative medicin on its own, but felt very safe as my acupuncturist was not only a gynokologist but also a surgeon, and she worked as the head of the Gyno-ward in a hospital.

I hope this may help you..

Hugs:-)

i had the same pain, was told it was from the OR table and laying on the gerney. if you have a massager shower head let it beat on your hip during your next shower, i found this really helped. also, try a heating pad when you're sitting .

I also had hip pain but not until a couple of weeks afterwards. Maybe everything else just hurt so bad I didn't notice.

I figure it was from the position I was in during surgery? Regardless, it did go away - maybe in a week or so I think.....

I certainly wasn't anticipated pain there - but it makes sense.

The shower massage or a heating pad should help ease it....

I had a SAH on October 1st and have been experiencing some similar pain. I went for a massage today with a Registered Massage Therapist (I believe it has the same designation in the US) and I feel great now! The therapist said that the pain can be due to the strange positions we are resting in and also other parts of our body compensating for the weak abdominal areas. I went for a massage last Saturday and another today. I feel so much better now. Maybe you can give that a try. It has worked for me. I have an appointment next Thursday and I can't wait. It's treatment for the body and the soul!

Thanks for the advice, but did it hurt when you laid on your stomach and how did you relax during your message?

It was a little uncomfortable just getting into the position on my belly but I took a soft ice pack with me and I laid on that. Once I got into the position it didn't hurt at all. The massage therapist offered to do the procedure while I was lying on my side, like she would do a pregnant woman, but I didn't need to do it. Once I got myself situated on the table I didn't experience any discomfort at all.
