Help?

I had my VH on Oct. 25th. Everytime I need to pass gas, or the urge comes to do so, it cramps ALL THE WAY DOWN. To the point i have to breath as if I am having contractions. Same with having a BM though I haven't been able to have a "good" bm since before surgery a week ago. Is this normal?

Help?

I had the same thing happen. I started taking a soft pillow in with me and press it against my stomach. I would do lamaze breathing. Do not push.

Drink lots of water, walk, eat prunes, take ducolax, or milk of mag. It is quite normal our bowels and intestines have been moved, filled with gas, and had disruption.

This was the hardest part of recovery for me. Hang in there and do your best.

I too had those issues. I used GAS-X (one after every meal and one at bedtime) and ate applesause everyday. Used milk of mag just once around week 2.

GOOD LUCK

I'm so sorry you both had this same issue, as it's SO PAINFUL, but I am glad I am not alone and you have some great advise. It worried me b/c I had that same feeling before surgery, and now it's just about 20x's worse. UG! I know it will get better, I HOPE! Other than that, I feel GREAT. besides being weak and tired and not able to eat much

Me too. My TVH was the 26th and I'm doing lots better. I think the stool softeners do work,as I didn't bother to take them yesterday and today wasn't quite as good... I also have a sharp pain in that area almost all the time - feels like a rod or knife up in there - not too pleasant. Sitting is kinda painful if it's not a soft chair. But the cramping is getting better. I wonder if it's just the bowels readjusting?

Help?

Hello Ladies - same here! Gas and bowel movement pain was bad Before surgery - After hyst - Oh My God - The Pain!!! I am now 4 weeks post op (LSH) and it is slowly getting better every day - just like every other weird sensation I'm having with this.

Good advice posted here already - and remember - like I was told - YOU JUST HAD MAJOR SURGERY!!! Take it easy on you!

Pain meds are very constipating too - I used senna laxative (one every other night or so) because it helped me 'go' and get the pressure out - without really bad cramping - because we are in enough pain already!

... and I used the pillow on my belly too with light pressure, that helped pass the gas without crying

Hang in there - it does get better every day - just some days I see less progress than others

Great advise ladies, thank you so much! I am sitting here in tears b/c it hurts soooooo bad. I think I will try a stool softner. Do they work fast? I dont want a laxative, don't want MORE cramps. LOL I will try the pillow!

Hubby ran to the store for apple/prune juice and MOM. I too, feel the poopy gods have smiled down on me, b/c after all that balling and crying, I was able to go a bit, which was more than the hard, constipation for the last week. It sortof squeeked right out there.
Should I still take the MOM? or prune juice???

I heard here from the Princesses to use MiraLax. It's perfect! It used to be prescription and is now available on the shelf. No cramping and it's a God-send. But man, I hear you. It was really painful at first... MiraLax rules!
