aches and pains

Hello, cowpat. I'm sorry you are experiencing aches and pains. I can't tell your age, nor whether you would have been in perimenopause or menopause prior to your hyst. I am 52 now -- was 51 at the time of my hyst -- and I too started feeling as if I were much older than that, just after my hyst. Increased activity has helped some. But I was interested in your posting because I will be interested in seeing what others respond to you.

When I first started feeling aches in my hips and knees, I started reading up on these matters. I am now taking supplements that help me tremendously. This is my list: in addition to a multivitamin for middle aged women (from GNC), I take flax seed oil capsules and grape seed (to help with menopause symptoms), selenium (memory), a calcium/magnesium combination (2:1 ratio), vitamin E, and glucosamine/chondroitin. I take these in addition to a thyroid medication necessitated by my hypothyroidism. If I happen to forget to take my meds, I am very sorry for it by mid-day, because I have trouble with mobility, strength, and general feeling of wellbeing.

It might be useful if you did some reading about your condition to see what you think might help you. Each of us is different. I hope you do find some relief from supplements, though. I fought off thinking about them for some time, and then when I finally started this regimen, I realized my body just needed more than it was getting.

Best wishes to you.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

Are you taking HRT? If not, it would certainly be worth chatting to your doctor about it but, if you are, maybe your dosage needs adjusting? I'm only guessing, but it does sound possibly hormone-related. It could also be a number of other things, though, and the only way to find out is to see your doctor.

Will you let us know what you find out? I hope it improves very soon!

I had horrible aches and pains--LAVH in July o7 only one ovary left and my Dr. did blood work and found that even though I had 1 ovary it no longer was functioning--I am 41 and felt like I was 90--he started me on a low dose of premarin (hrt) and it has made a huge difference--plus I take a nice dose of vitamin c and b complex! Call your Dr. and ask about blood work! Jeanine

I have this, too - which didn't start until I had my hysterectomy (ovaries removed). The tops of my hands hurt, I can't get comfy on my sofa to save my life, and the bottoms of my feet even hurt. The doctor ran some bloodwork to rule out rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus (they came back negative)...and said it wasn't caused by the hysterectomy. I guess he meant to say "not that quickly". I wasn't taking hormones - just put the patch back on the other day...apparently there are proteins that your ovaries make that bind other proteins and without it you can be more succeptible to different things happening in your body, one of which is pain receptors (or at least that's how I remember him saying it). I guess it makes sense - our ovaries do a lot more than just make us all "girly".
