WOW...the gas pain!! =(

I am not trying to be too much of a whiner now that I am home, but this gas pain is incredible.
I am sure you other post-op ladies have experienced it. My stomach is so tight and sore and the pain from the gas in my shoulders has almost made me cry a couple of times.
How long (on average) should it be before this gas goes down. I am taking Gax-X as well, and am assuming that moving about a little may speed up the process.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this matter would be awesome.
Thanks for being here ladies!

WOW...the gas pain!! =(

Dear Deb...

Hang in there girl.... It does get better.... sometimes takes a while but every day there's a little improvement.

The gas-x was very important for me... could really tell when I didn't take it. And short walks as often as I felt up to it seemed to move the gas about and make me feel better.

I know it's painful.... hard to imagine that gas is the culprit when you feel like you're having a heart attack! (That's what mine felt like with my lap surgery last year.)

Sometimes a little heat can help - warm shower or heating pad on low- if Dr. says it's okay.

Will be thinking of you and praying that you'll get relief very soon!

Take care... and let us know how you're doing...

Dinkum (also a Georgia-girl)

WOW...the gas pain!! =(

Right in there with you, had my surgery on oct 31 and the gas has
been up real. I thought they had broken my right shoulder, the pain
was so bad. All the gas has now gone out of the shoulder and chest area
but stomach is still awful. I am using the gas x and praying it works.
Hang in there.....

WOW...the gas pain!! =(

my lsh was my first lap surgery and i was shocked at how painful the gas pains were. i stayed in the hospital 2 days on morphine because of it. i dont believe gas-x helps lap gas pain...thats more for intestinal gas. it just has to dissolve on its own. walking is supposed to help. i hope you feel better really soon.

WOW...the gas pain!! =(

Gas was my biggest problem when I got home from the hospital ( almost 2 weeks since my TAH. I had a sharp pain under my left breast and I thought it was because my Lymph nodes where removed ( due to cancer issues )
A nursing friend of mine told me it can also be due to the way the I was 'clamped open' during surgery as well alot of moving around of organs, just checking to make sure everything is OK while they have you opened up.
Regardless,,,,,I had terrible gas build--up and was praying for a good BM and gas to release out the backdoor ( so to speak)
alot of water,,,,water ,,,water,,,walking and gas EX....Peppermint tea helped me. trying to lay on your left side and pull your knees as high as is comfortable ( comfort,,,,,ha!) chewing gum was also suggested, but I didn't try that. Good luck ladies. After 2 weeks my gas has subsided mostly,,,,,,but BOY it does hurt!

WOW...the gas pain!! =(

The gas pain was the worst for me too. It lasted about a week for me. Just like the other ladies said, wallking, drinking lots of water. After my gas pain subsided I had terrible acid reflux, so bad I couldn't sleep. My doctor told me to take OTC prilosec. That was tremendous! The reflux was gone within two days. I still have trouble with BMs so I still get gas pains occasional. Hang in there, it does get better.

WOW...the gas pain!! =(

The gas pains were the worst part of it. I live alone so did alot of wailing and keening. Keep on that walking, Gas X or similar relief, keep hydrated and one of the best tips I got on this site was, rub your gut in soft circles. It really does seem to help. I had them even after I went back to work at two weeks. I did alot of tummy rubbing! fotunately, I have my own office.

I had the same problem for about 3-4 days after my LAVH on Oct.23rd. Walking and lots of water. Try some apple juice with prune juice mixed together and warm it up that also will help. Put a heating pad on your shoulders and upper stomach but not down around your incisions that helped me alot. It takes time but you will feel better and better each day.

WOW...the gas pain!! =(

The other thing that worked for me was ice packs. It was suprising to me but it did help. I don't know why !!!
Other than that I used Colace, prunes and Gas X.
