Are baths okay?

Good morning Ladies!

Do / Did any of you have restrictions on bathing (shower vs tub bath)?

I'm 3 weeks out (TAH/BSO) and wondering if a soothing soak in the tub would be okay.

My post-op instructions don't mention any restrictions on bathing.

What has been your experience(s)?

Thanks!

Are baths okay?

Since you had a TAH I would suggest you call your doctor's office to make sure. I was taking showers right off the bat but kept my back to the shower. I don't know about taking a bath because that would mean really soaking your incision and I don't know if that much soaking is good for it. I would be afraid it might come open. But that's just me, Miss Paranoid here! HA HA HA HA.

Are baths okay?

My doctor said no baths for six weeks. I don't know if it's because of not soaking the incision or because of the need to keep the vagina free of any outside influences.

Showers are fine if I keep the spray away from the incision.

But, I agree, check with your doctor's office.

Are baths okay?

I had a TLH with BSO and Bladder sling and my dr ok'd me for bathing in plain warm water after 3 days.I would be in a bad way if i couldnt bathe since I don't have a shower.I do however have to have help washing my hair since i can't lay down in the tube and get back up so my mom washes it with a cup.but i would ask your doctor.

Are baths okay?

Thanks Ladies!

We're just getting our first chilly weather here in the deep south... (down to 40 degrees last night... brrrrr!) I truly sympathize with those of you who deal with sure enough cold weather..... Just don't think I could survive for long.

Anyway.... the warm tub soak was just sounding pretty good.... however, I don't want to have any problems now since things have been progressing well up to this point.

Soooo..... I think I'll just compromise...... How about a long warm sit-down-in-the-tub shower????

I know you girls are probably thinking I'm crazy about now..... but the "cabin fever" is getting to me today..... and I guess I'm just looking for ways to "stretch my boundaries"

Thanks for your patient and caring support. Hope ya'll are having a good day today too. (excuse the ya'll.... it's a southern thing!)

Are baths okay?

Dinkum,

Your SC neighbor here checking in! I'm freezing, too, and longing for a tub bath, but my Dr. said NO tub bathing until after my 6 week checkup.

I also had a TAH/BSO, and I'm so sick of showers I could scream! Not to mention going stir crazy, but that's another story.

Are baths okay?

I didn't take a tub bath until 6 weeks. I thought my urologist told me not until 6 weeks to do this. Then I asked my OBGYN if I could and he said I could have taken one BEFORE 6 weeks! Sheesh! If I would have known.

I just love to relax in a tub bath!! Calgon take me away!!

Are baths okay?

I could shower as soon as my staples came out (7 to 10 days after surgery) but no baths for 6 weeks.

Bathing was out for me until I had healed completely which was 3 months. In the interim I sat on a stool in the shower and used my hand held shower head as I did in the hospital. I was too sick and weak to stand to take a shower but the sitting worked out well for me.

Talk to your doctor about what is specifically okay and not okay for you! Each doctor has his/her own set of "rules" following surgery but the rule of thumb is generally no bathing for 6 weeks.

Are baths okay?

Well Ladies....

Looks like the showers win out over the tub baths for now.... just to be on the safe side!

Just one more thing we can look forward to when our 6weeks are up and the doc gives us the okay to "proceed with caution"... can hardly wait!!

Thanks for all the replies....
