migraine headaches?

Has anyone experience migraine headaches? If so what did you do? Quit taking the estrogen,or conitnue and work with them. Last night I had such a headache I could not sleep, even with a ambien. I am goin gto call my Dr. today but I don't know what my options are

I have had them since I was 13. I am 42 now. I got so many in the first few weeks after the TAH. But, they have tapered off. I rarely get them at all. My dr prescribed estrogen, Premarin. I started taking it and I got 2 headaches the first week. I stopped taking it. I would rather deal with hotflashes than migraines. I am taking Restoril to help me sleep. The hotflashes don't even wake me up.

If you want to stay on the estrogen, try adding ginger to your diet. I found that it helped the severity and frequency of the headaches.

I too have had them since I was 13. They were period/hormone related (as well as changes in the weather). So far, almost a week post op, the only one I've had was immediately after the surgery

I kept my ovaries and plan on going on BCP full time (never taking any breaks) for a few years to avoid ovulation which is also a trigger.

If migraines are new to you and you haven't tried the triptans yet, I highly suggest those. Imitrex has been a lifesaver for me (besides the uterus removal which I'm hoping will be an even BIGGER lifesaver!!).

are you on oral estrogen?

when i was taking estradiol orally (that's just bio identical estrogen) i had HORRIBLE headaches. i found a new HRT doc and she put me on vivelle dot (a patch) and they stopped. i also added progesterone to the mix. i've been headache free ever since.

lots of women find that taking the estradiol orally causes very bad headaches.
