Boxerlover, astonished by your positive spirit given the bad experiences. Maybe you might look to fellow nurse or doc or attorney to advocate for you--your calls need to be answered and best treatment provided in the next 24 hours. My prayers are with you and others dealing with difficulties. Good night.

I can drive and do a little shopping...if I go places where I can sit and rest. I had to promise not to shop til I dropped. Funny though, I'm still not allowed to clean the house; darn it! I was so looking forward to it too.

My next appointment is Dec 27th...
Hi hotflash: why do they always tell us what we can't do? It seems so negative. So here is a list of things I think are ok for me to do:
spray cleaner on table & counters and wipe
dust gently with feather duster
watch tv
read a book
go online
call someone
listen to music
write Christmas cards
chop veggies sitting down at table
fold towels
and my favorite: tell others what needs to be done!

Thursday will also be the 2 week mark for me, I was at the doctors today though as I have started bleeding (had a TAH cervix and tubes removed only kept ovaries), also though with the bleeding I am finding it 'smelly' so the doctor has taken a swab and has put me on antibiotics for the next week. as he thinks it may be a small infection from where they took the cervix out Im not in any pain at all (thankfully) and the only reason I went to the doctor about this is because it 'smells' and I didnt think it was right!!.
Other than that everything is going excellent I have been cooking dinner for my DH and the kids this week even!! Woo-Hoo go me haha, so heres hoping next week I'll feel well enough to drive!

Hope everyone else is doing well
xx

November 16th...

I had my hysterectomy done on November 16th. The surgery took about 2 hours. I remember it being dark outside when I came about around 5 pm. I was really out of it after the surgery. I didn't eat supper but kept the snack out of my meal for later on in the night.

I remember feeling the catheter and feeling the need to use it frequently. Actually I still need to use the facilities on a regular basis. The catheter wasn't removed until Saturday morning and I didn't get up until after that was removed.

I remember having very bad back/shoulder pain through Friday night/Saturday morning. I was given moraphine for it. Didn't like that sensation though when I was sleeping, I feel like I was falling and that is how I would wake up with that sensation. Also, I had really bad gas pains so bad in fact I now have hemmroids. Which I really didn't expect as a side effect of this surgery.

I was released on the 18th of November.

Feeling better now but restless and having problems with insomina. Have my follow up at the end of this week. I really am bored and it is hard to not do a number of usual activities.

2 weeks today

LAVH, BSO, A/P repair 11/14. Home with catheter 11/15. Catheter removed 11/20.

Well, now that the UTI from the catheter is getting cleared up and I'm not having headaches anymore, I am surprised at how poorly I felt when I thought I felt good! My energy level is back up...no naps for about 4 days now. No pain meds for 1 1/2 weeks other than Motrin...and none of that since Sunday. I am able to do just about anything I choose to around the house. Obviously no heavy lifting, etc. But I am doing laundry, cooking, light housecleaning. I've been driving for a week. I have not had trouble with bm's - I just make sure to watch what I eat. I took stool softeners for the first week. After about 3 days home with no bm, I used a suppository - the same as they used in the hospital. That got things going and they've been going fine since.

The only discomfort I have now is with the stitches from the a/p repair. They itch like crazy sometimes!! Using Vagisil or Lanacane spray for that.

I am also surprised at the little aches and pains that are gone that I didn't realize I even had before surgery. I realized yesterday how good my lower back feels....I guess all that weight of my pelvic organs pulling on all those support muscles happened so gradually I didn't even realize it. Woohoo! No back pain and I can go to the bathroom when I want/need to!!! Who could ask for more??

I return to work Monday. I will be physically ready, even though I don't really want to - I've enjoyed the break! I wish you all the best in your recoveries. I don't want to rub in my good fortune, but I wanted to give a positive report for those on the other side doing their pre-op research.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am doing most of them already...I can't just sit here and do nothing! Being able to drive is going to help with the boredom.

Thanks again!

Well, I am 2 weeks post op today, and today is a bad day. I am having more pain than what I have been having. I have been having really light headed dizzy spells all day long and I feel like I am going through menopause. I kept my ovaries and I really hope the hot flashes stop really soon. I did call into my doctor and he wants me to go tomorrow to get my iron level check and see what is going on with me. I guess I was hoping I would start to feel better instead of feeling worst each day. Hopefully this soon will pass and I will be able to get over all these problems. I hope everyone else is doing good.

I am 2 weeks post op from my TVH with a Bladder sling today. I, too, kept my ovaries but am having night sweats and I wake up around 1:00am and cannot go back to sleep. Is this normal? My post op check up is next Tuesday.
