PMS and Surgical Menopause

Hi ladies,

I had a TAH in 2002 and now I'm scheduled to have both ovaries removed Dec. 17 due to cysts (one complex, the other functional).

I will be receiving HRT afterwards, but I had a question that I forgot to ask my gyn/oncologist, so I figured you ladies here would know.

I've had serious PMS over the last few years since my TAH. It's gotten so bad that every month I want to divorce my husband! I feel awful about how I feel and act during these times and almost can't stand myself.

Is there any chance that the HRT might balance my hormonal levels out so that these drastic mood swings won't happen and I won't be so *****y during these times? Or is it just going to get worse?

Thanks and s,

Lisa

Lisa,
I recall reading that you were scheduled for October 12th to have your ovaries removed. What happened?

Anyways, hormones are not an exact science nor is hrt. Yes, there's a chance that you'll get the hrt right on the first shot, but there's also a chance that you will have to do some tweaking and it may take awhile to find what is going to work for you. It can take months or years.

You can read more about hormones in the articles at www.hormonejungle.com I would do some reading and than talk with your doctor.

PMS and Surgical Menopause

Thanks, Kim. I'll check out those articles and see what I can learn. This is all so new to me and with my other health problems, I haven't even really had time to do much thinking about the surgery or afterwards.

I was originally scheduled for surgery on Oct. 12, but with my work schedule, it was impossible for me to take the time off. I'm the only professor at the college who teaches the subjects I teach, and there were no subs who could take over. My doctor felt that it would be alright to postpone, so I'll be having the surgery during my month-long Christmas break. Guess we'll be having a quiet Christmas this year.

Hugs,

Lisa
