I Cant "go" N Afraid It Will All Fall Out

I had TVHrectocele and suspension on 11/12 pooped on day 4. I was so scared. Take the softners...colace is what i took, i took 2 at bed and 2 in the morning. I also used gas x with maalox extra strength tabs berry- they are really yummy. Also, dr gave me miralax. This has been the bomb.

I was so scared and uncomfortable the worst part of this, before I pooped...this may be tmi but i am going to share anyway...only because it helped me.

I had a hard time relaxing while sitting on the potty with all the pressure and anticipation, so I got on all fours and just relaxed as I had done when I was big and pregnant to give myself some relief from all the pressure. I told dh I was uncomfortable I did not care if I pooped on the floor. We put a towel on the bathroom floor and I just sat ther on all fours, It really helped relax everything, I then felt the urge to have a bm. I waited until I knew it was right there and then got up to the toilet.

It really helped me...I also did the same thing in the shower on hands and knees with hot water on me to allieviate some very bad pain and pressure in back region

I have IBS-type symptoms (hormone induced - I get them only when I do *not* have AF. I'm not sure what's worse sometimes. How cruel is that?!). It took me years to figure out that position but it really does help me. Unfortunately, I don't think it would work with my TAH/horizontal incision - I can't even get in/out of bed. Maybe after the staples are out.

I read a good hint in an e-book called The Worried Woman's Guide to a Happy Hysterectomy by Shiela Martin. It's a funny book and help alleviate some of my worry before surgery. Anyway, she said that an old nurse suggested that she sit on the toilet, put her feet up on something so that they are not on the floor and rock gently back and forth. Sounds crazy but it worked for her and it actually worked for me. I think you are supposed to gently massage your stomach at the same time but I didn't do that. Anyway, try it. Nothing to lose

I had the worse gas pains before I would try to move a small BM as well after my surgery, it was horrible! I was on the stool softeners one month before my surgery and a high fiber diet and tons of water, fruits, veggies, everything my Doc told me to do to get ready before my surgery. It was after that I was on constant PAIN KILLERS that did the dirty deed for me. I realised if I slowly weened off some of them I traded some pain for a great painless BM.It worked for me, I have always enjoyed knowing that twice a day I have a relaxing normal time I have a BM. At my age you look forward to theses things , and this is terrible to say, but I now have some of those PAIN KILLERS saved for a rainy day when I may pull my back out or something. Yes! I know that's bad, but POOP happens, Holly

My dr. told me if I didn't have a bm on day 5 to take some milk of magnesium. I did take it and I'm glad I did because like everyone else here I had the urge to go but was afraid, and I had a TAH. I also took the gas-x thin strips they are also very helpful. Good luck.

I Cant "go" N Afraid It Will All Fall Out

I have been using Miralax. It's a tastelass powder you put in any liquid (I use apple juice). It's a laxative and stool softener. I started taking it Saturday and it finally kicked in Monday and seems to do the trick. I was worried because I had to start back on iron right away and that is so constipating but so far so good. I have also been going for a short walk outside daily and drinking alot of water and juice.

My boss has had a couple operations and she is the one who told me about Miralax. She said "if you never listen to any other advice I give you, get some Miralax." She was right!!

Hope things get better VERY soon.
