5 months post op belly problems

Hello sisters,
I had a TAH 6/12/07 for endometriosis, fibroids, heavy bleeding, pain etc. I had fibroids all over the place including my bowel and bladder. I still have a tender swollen big belly; I cannot have a "movement" without the aid of laxatives, my belly button is leaking. I've spent the last 5 months thinking this was part of the post op and that things would gradually get better. After being prompted by friends - I called my gyn last Friday and she says the belly swelling and tenderness is normal and the other issues are not hysterectomy related and that I should go to my regular doctor for the bowel issue. I don't have a regular doctor since my medical problems were always "female problems". My gyn is aware of my 20 + years of medical history and now is telling me to go to someone else for issues I believe are clearly related to my TAH.

1.Is the tender swollen belly normal after 5 months post op? The area between the incision and my belly button is still very tender and it still hurts to wear pants and I look terrible in my clothes.

2.I could not poo before surgery which I later learned was due to the fibroid spider webbing all over my bowel. Now that the fibroids have been removed - this is unchanged - which makes my belly feel even more swollen.

3.Does anyone have a leaky belly button? It's watery liquid and basically leaks when I wear something that is tight or I sit for a long period of time.

Thank you very much - peace and wellness to you all.

I am not a doctor here, but any leakage from the umbilicus is not a good thing. If your gyn wants to basically wash his/her hands of you, seems to me you shouldn't even want them finally treating you IF the only way you can get them to do it is to complain until they finally acquiesce.

And they are probably correct that at this point it isn't a gyn issue anymore and will probably warrant another type of specialist to treat your condition...regardless of whether the hysterectomy caused it. A gyn is not a gastroenterologist or a urologist, etc.

I would seek out a doctor, post haste, and tell them your complete history with your problems you've had before/after your hysterectomy. They can then send you to the appropriate specialist doctor if need be.

You have to feel comfortable with a doctor and because you haven't had any others treating you doesn't mean there aren't any out there who are much more caring than your gyn.

Please don't wait on this...and I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you for responding NPWriter. I've known this doctor for such a long time that I thought she was my friend - once the uterus was gone apparently so was she. I won't wait on this - I'll get myself looked at soon. Thank you again.
