Backaches!!

Do any of you ladies have backaches since your surgey? I usually sleep on my stomach or my side but since the surgery I dare not sleep on anything but my back. The problem with that is that I cannot get comfortable and my back is killing me!! Help!! Can anyone suggest something. I had my LSH last Tueday so I know it has to be to be way to soon to sleep in any other position.

Backaches!!

Carsonvk

I had backaches really bad, too. I'm usually a side and tummy sleeper too.
I was sleeping on my side the fourth day post-op with a blanket crammed under my belly for support. The best remedy I found was just getting off my back!
Heating pad helped alot, too. Went for massage at two weeks post-op and this helped.

Hope it gets better soon

Backaches!!

OH THANK YOU!! I was starting to wonder if something else was wrong with me! I will try to do what you did by placing a blanket or something under my belly for support. I am not getting any rest like this. I wake up constantly because I am uncomfortable. I have a heating pad so while I sit in the living room today, I think I will place it to my back. Thank you so much!!

Hi carsonvk,

I am also dealing with backaches which I think are caused from sleeping difficulties and lack of physical activity (trying to be a good patient). I can really only sleep on my side, so I have actually been sleeping (or at least trying to) on my couch which has pretty comfortable recliners. But it is soooooo not my bed. I have tried taking a short nap in my bed lying on my side with a small pillow to support my stomach, but it just left me very sore and quite miserable. Whenever I am finally able to sleep a whole night in my bed, I am going to celebrate!
I hope that your recovery is quick and complication free.

Backaches!!

Hi all,
Backaches are an automatic occurence is seems with this surgery. You hear of people going to their doctors complaining of a sore back - they are often given abdominal exercices to strenghten the back. Our surgery disrupted this important balance in our core. For me, relief has come from changing positions and the heating pad. I would say, I had a sore back and sore hips for 3-4 weeks and then again when I overdue it. Once our abdominal muscles start repairing, things will get back to normal. Happy recovery all.

Backaches!!

HuggieBear: I am glad to hear that I am not alone. And that saying "God is Good all of the time" got me through this procedure. I hope your recovery goes well too!! Take it easy and hopefully we can get a good nights sleep real soon!! I am so tired of sleeping on my recliner too! And you are right it is so not the bed. I slept a little better last night, but still woke up sore.

murphmuffin: Thanks for the much needed information, I had not even thought of what you said, but it makes so much since and helps me to understand my discomfort. I can not wait for a good night and pain free sleep.

Backaches!!

carsonvk,
I too am a side sleeper and found it difficult to sleep on my back. I finally put a bunch of pillows on the bed so it was almost like I was sleeping upright. That worked a while... Another thing I tried was to put a pillow under my legs. Finally, after about 1 1/2 weeks, I could finally sleep on my left side - but I had to use a pillow between my legs to take the pressure off my belly.

Good luck to you!

Backaches!!

Ladies maybe this will help you. After my TAH my major complaint was back pain. I thought that it was all a part of the position I was in during surgery
and being on back for 2-3 hours. Well initial recovery Vicodin took care of all
pains but towards the end of recovery the back pain was even more prominent. It got so bad that I thought I would go to ER but I hung in there and saw my primary MD the next day. He said that it is muscle skeletal problem and prescribed Voltaren (anti-inflammatory), muscle relaxant, and physical therapy. I am 90% better. My therapist has me doing alot of stretching, lumbar strengthening exercises, followed by ultrasound therapy to sore area and electric stimulator with heat and it feel great!

I started to use the pillow under the knees two nights ago and let me tell you that really, really helps. Thanks!!

Shawndenise: Thanks for the info. I hope that by my follow up I am doing better, but I am definantely going to ask for help from my doctor if these pains consist.

Backaches!!

I have chronic back pain from ruptured disk 5 yrs ago. Had surgery 10/23/07. My back is killing me, and has been for the last 2 weeks. I had just started to get a handle on the back pain from before and here we go again. My legs ache and have a lot of pressure in my abdomen I know it is just weak ab muscles, but it is not fun. I want to go back to work but don't think I could even think with this constant back stuff.
