Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

My doctor said if the strips started to peel off then I could go ahead and remove them.

After about 12 days I took a long warm shower to soften them, then carefully peeled them off. It really wasn't very painful because the skin was still somewhat numb. I pulled them slowly toward the incision, then carefully sideways. It feels better now without the tugging and itching from the strips!

I wouldn't recommend the method, mind you, but I lost about 20 pounds and I'll probably lose more when I get back to work and have something to do beside eat and sew

The steri-strips fall off eventually, no need to rush 'em, just let 'em exist.

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

Whew, I'm glad I found this post. I was beginning to think I was some sort of freak.

I had a TAH, was off the pain meds in 6 days, sleeping on my side by day 4, and except for a slight pinch in the left side of my incision when I sneeze, I feel fine.

I feel badly for the women who are having problems, but I'm glad to know that I'm not alone.

I guess we all really do heal at our own paces.

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

This is day 9 for me, and I've lost 9 pounds, what's up with the weight loss, don't get me wrong, I'm loving it. I have an appetiite now and have been eating, so I wonder if I'll gain it back? My belly is still so swollen, can we take anything for that? I'm not on any pain meds, but I'm taking an Aleve in the morning and at night. The only real problem I have is incredible back pain, it's at the bottom of my ribs. It really hurts when I'm sitting up in a chair. Anyone else have this? Otherwise, I feel pretty good.

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

TamaraJo,
Hi, I think my recovery has been atypical also. I am afraid to say so thinking the bottom will fall out anytime now!
I had my TAH BSO on 11-26-07, went home on the 29th, they wanted to keep me til the 30th, but i pleaded to go home so I went late that evening. I didn't have what I consider pain, more so just soreness. I kept waiting for excruciating pain to come, but it never did. Thin I realized that my pain was the soreness and achiness I had in my abdomen. But I am day 9 days post op, have had some #2's but still not my normal. I am getting around well, and fighting the urge to pick up my bedroom and do things I have on my to do list like cleaning my dresser off.

I take motrin once or twice a day so that I will not feel achy but I am sure I can get by without it.

The only things I have noticed are; I get warm then cold, not really sweating. My heart races off and on, and I had a couple of teary episodes.

I am used to going 24/7 so this paying attention to myself is hard for me. I am very busy with work and home and to watch it stand still is hard, especially with Christmas coming up.

Well, this is my story so far....I hope it continues.

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

lincolnlady-I've lost 20 lbs in 21 days, its from all the repair work our bodies are doing. Think of all the mending your body must do from the surgery. I find this the reward side affect. I think if you are carefully with what you eat you should be able to keep the weight off. I've been fighting this 25 lbs. for several years. My homopath told me that my fat like the fibroids was estrogen fed. So I was never going to lose the weight with a diet. So hopefully when we figure out my hormonal needs we can continue to control my weight along with the other symptoms that will start up soon.
I have not had any symptoms yet.
She as well as my surgeon told me I had 6 weeks worth of hormones in reserve. My experience so far would support this. So I plan on testing next week that would be 30 days since surgery. Then adding the hormones I need at that point.

I would love to lose 20 pounds and be able to keep it off. I ate a little bit more today so I'll be anxious to see what my weight is in the morning.
Thanks for the info

Wow, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one feeling good...hahaha I'm just anxious to get back to work now, but I know I have to wait. I wonder if going to my Christmas party this Friday is overdoing it though I'm going to go and if I feel tired I guess I'll leave early, I'm so fed up of being locked up in the house. I'm too afraid to go out without support in case I fall on the ice, so going to the Christmas party will probably do me some good. Have a great holiday season all!!!
