Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

Several friends told me the worst pain would last an entire week. For me, the worst was pretty much just the first 24 hours. I had an abdominal incision, kept ovaries & cervix. The pain from that is soooo much less than I'd expected. However, they had an extremely difficult time putting in my breathing tube and my throat ended up bleeding and bruised. That pain has been excruciating for days, but the hysterectomy pain itself has been, thank God, nowhere near what I expected.

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

Hi Tamara,

After a pretty painful bout of gas yesterday, I'm feeling much better today. I think that getting up and moving around is the best thing anyone can do notwithstanding the cautionary notes to be sure not to overdo. Congrats on such a great recovery.

Im doing ok

I had an abdominal hysterectomy uterus, ovaries AND gallbladder. I really have had a pretty good recovery. I never had bad pain just uncomfortable. My veritical incision is healing nicely with the exception of a few red itchy spots from the staples. I am not taking any pain meds as of today and only 1 ibuprofen (sp?) and 2 Tylenol PM yetsterday.

My only complaints are bouts of nausea and headaches. The headaches seem to be sinus related. I also have times when I get discouraged because I know I am not 100%. I have a wonderful DH, sister and friends that help me if I need it.

After reading all the things some of the other ladies have dealt with I feel so bad for them, and it makes me realize how much I have to be thankful for.

I think about everyone often and pray that we all recover soon and our lives are improved!

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

Good mourning sisters, I hope everyone had a great Thanks giving! I went to the dr. on 11/19, he says I'm a free woman. I am cleared for everything. Besides the cranky plumbing waking up in week 2 & giving me a few rough days & a few hormone days, I've had a pretty fair recovery. I do have hot flashes even on hrt but they're not extreme. I've always ran on the hot side even before my surgery.

I was lucky to have a good dr., good hospital experiance & an uneventful recovery. I did have a TAH w/ vertical incision, it healed up better than my last c-section did & it didn't come open like my c-section did! And hopfully I won't develope those nasty adhesions, guess I had plenty from last c-section. Dr. said they were worse than the endo, adno & fribroids I had all put together. I was very careful about restrictions, so I hope it helps to avoid adhesions.

My heart pours out to all of you that have on going complications. I read several times a day. I wish there was something I could do to help you feel better! I do send hugs to all of you wish healing for all of you.

I am very gratful for this place to come to on my hormone days & vent my feelings. Yes compared to a lot of ladies out there I feel like my problems are minor but then again hormones are very tricky little things that wreck havoc all by themselves, aren't they! They can turn you upside down in an instant, just ask dh!

Speaking of dh, he has been the greatest! I would have been lost with out him! He truly amazed me! I have never needed anyone to take care of me like this before. Pamper the princess!!!!!!! To bad it has to end! HA HA! A few more weeks would be nice!

So all in all, I feel pretty good now & have healed well. And yes, IT IS NICE TO HEAR GOOD EXPERIANCES! Please keep posting! Hope & faith keeps us going, not to mention the support from all our sisters. Hugs to all of you!

TEXT BOOK RECOVERY FOR ME -- NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.

it is sometimes hard for those of us that had no problems to relate to those that have problems and for those that had complications to relate to those who did not.

I've had a fairly easy recovery too, I had a LAVH - just a few twinges here and there. Of course, after catching a cold yesterday every time I sneeze or couch I have to say "ouch"! But considering the amount of pain I was in before the surgery I feel great - better than I have in years! I, too, keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I also had a great recovery--my Dr and nurses were awesome--I had a laproscopic and vag assisted hyster and had all removed but one ovary--I stayed in bed for about 7 days because my family waited on me-My husband took 2 weeks off and really was very attentive. I had some discomfort but I was pleasantly surprised--even when my very athletic husband was surprisingly diagnosed with an undetected heart defect and had open heart surgery 2 and 1/2 weeks after mine I still did well--the nurses that took care of him also made sure I was resting. I think more people need to tell their happy stories so we don't scare the newbies so much--Jeanine

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing ok or not. Generally, I'm doing about well as folks with TAH BSO. sometimes I'm doing great; others time, it's about average. My skin weirdness continues and depending on what I'm doing determines my pain level. I don't hurt all the time and when I do it's really more of an annoyance.

I take a pain pill at bedtime, sometimes. I've probably taken 4 pills in the last 2 weeks. I took a few pills in the first few days.

I went in last week to see my doc about a weird looking tummy bulge. She said that I'm doing well and that I'm going to be OK. So, I must be doing well.

I"m walking and doing OK with that. Now I just need patience.

Take the pills when you need them love - if you feel at all confused or uncomfortable with what your doctor tell you, a second opinion can be useful. Did your surgery remove the cancer?
