Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

Hi sisters! I'll be 1 month post-op on Monday, and I'm feeling pretty darn good lately! When I'm sitting down in a comfortable position...and especially when I wake up in the morning...I don't even feel like I've had any surgery at all! But other times I do...if I walk around a lot all day without taking rests/naps, and then my incision area gets sore and my belly gets sore. I went to the pool a couple of days ago, taking it very slow, and found that I could do very little in the way of what I used to, so that was a reality check. It's still gonna take a while before I can do my aqua jogging again. I couldn't imagine going back to a 40 hour a week job right now...and thank goodness I'm retired. All of you who are going/have gone back to work, please take it very easy, OK?? Our stamina is not up to par early on even though we feel good.

Here's to healing, all!

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

My recovery is going well. I was sore the first week. After that, I've been better each day. Its been almost 3 weeks since my TAH. I went for my 2 week check up and path reports negative and incision healing nicely. I just have to remember to rest and not overdo. I'm just now driving more and getting out once in a while.

I might get back to driving, but I'm a bit scared. I don't like the seat belt touching me. I wonder if i can look side to side or stop quickly. I may be better than I think. Also, I drive a 5 speed, so I need to swap vehicles with another family member.

Hi
I drive a 5 speed and its ok - everything is power isnt it - steering, brakes etc. Put a folded towel or a cushion between you and the seatbelt - makes you feel held in and more secure. I have been driving around short distances since 4 weeks post op and its been fine. Today I drove 150 miles on the highway and i am not too tired. I was expecting to be wiped out! Take it easy - you will be fine

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

My surgery was on Monday as well and came home Wednesday evening, I feel pretty good except I haven't had a bm yet. I'm pretty uncomfortable with that. I've been taking stool softners but nothing yet. Has anyone else had that problem. My incision is still pretty sore, but I'm not taking too much pain medication because I know it slows down the intestines. I really don't sleep except at night. I weighed myself this morning and have lost 7 pounds, but don't you think that might be just water weight. I don't have much of an appetite yet either. Any suggestion on the bm situation would be helpful.

lovetowalk, I also have a 5 speed and I've been driving (short distances at 1st) since about 2 1/2 weeks. The worst part for me is getting and out of the car, but the driving doesn't seem to bother me. Just as long as you're off pain meds and your reaction time isn't slowed down from that, you should be fine. Just take it all slow!

Thanks for the driving encouragement.

lincolnlady -- I think almost everyone has bm issues. That was the hardest (no pun intended) thing for me after coming home. My DH held my hand while I was on the potty.I thought I was going to have to use some tweezers.

Surgery was on Wed; first bm was on Sunday. For several days, I took metamucil. I still eat a prune or 2 and eat some bran cereal.

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

I had my surgery (LAPVH) on 11/14 and am feeling pretty good. I occasionally have some "twinges" but for the most part haven't had any major problems. I am learning that I can't do too much or else I get some cramps. My belly was a little swollen the first week but after that it seemed to go down. The incision areas are healing nicely and although my belly is still a little tender to the touch the bruising is pretty much gone. The hardest part for me is not lifting, sweeping, pushing or pulling anything and I think that's because I feel good and feel I should be able to do it. I have to remember that my insides are still healing and "readjusting"

I did start driving yesterday but haven't gone any long distances, just short distances to the store, etc.

This site has been great in answering questions and giving checkpoints for the weekly post-op marks.

I have experienced a couple of "hot flashes" where I've woken up at night to feeling a creeping heat come over me--has anyone else experienced this? I did keep my ovaries so I'm thinking it's just my hormones out of whack after the surgery.

Is ANYONE having a good hysterectomy recovery?!!!

lincolnlady-I had my TAH/BSO on 11/12, a Monday with the bowel cleanse required for surgery it took me until Saturday to have a BM. There was nothing to BM about before that. I took the stool softeners too and each time I have a BM I take one more stool softener for the next time.
I went in at one week for staples and only saw a nurse. I am still waiting on path. report and I don't see the doctor until 4 weeks. I hate waiting for path reports.
Did finally get a hospital bill which right now says I owe nothing, I am sure that is some kinda of joke because you know insurance is going to refuse something. In my past experiences the bill was at the house before I got home with a payment schedule included.
Glad to see so many are doing well.
