Ripping, Tearing Sensation around Lap Incision (Long Post)

I'm 4 1/2 weeks post op LAH (tubes removed, ovaries kept)w/ rectocele repair. Recovered very well first few days but started running a fever 5-6 days post op and pain around my right lap incision. It was a sharp pain aggrevated when I twisted a certain way, coughed or sneezed. Had a US which showed a cyst on my right ovary and some free fluid in the cul de sac. My WBC was normal, temp was 101.5, with elevated BP and pulse. Dr. decided it was probably pelvic cellulitis and gave me aantibiotics and allowed me to go home. That night the surgical glue gave way and all my incisions opened up and unfortunately, they still haven't closed.

I have been working part time since 2 weeks post op but if I go over 6 hours my belly swells and gets pretty sore. And about a day later, I get the pain in my right side again and it lasts 3-4 days. I went to the Dr. when it was pretty bad and he thought it could be adhesions on my intestine or ovary. He told me to do deep tissue massage and see if it helps. It did get better but yesterday, the pain came back with a vengeance and now it is more of a ripping or tearing feeling. I couldn't stay asleep because I couldn't find a comfortable position and I thought I was going to pass out when I went to the bathroom this morning, even peeing hurt. If I cough or sneeze, I feel like my insides are exploding. The pain goes in a diagonal line from my incision towards the middle of my pelvis. I do have a hard area under and around my incision that is very tender.

Sorry for going on and on but I need to know...has anyone ever experienced this or have a clue what it might be? Would scar tissue (adhesions) hurt this much? Could it be an injury to the muscle? I usually handle pain pretty well but this is starting to try my patience.

Thanks and s,
Jen

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this.

I'm afraid all I can advise is that you return to your doctor, as soon possible, for further investigation. I'm also concerned that working can't be helping ~ can you get time off until you have some answers?

Will you let us know what you find out? I hope it all settles down very soon.

Hi Jen,
I'm also so sorry that you're feeling this and echo the last response that I hope that you can stay out of work and get in to a doctor as soon as you're able. I have had searing pains running in different directions after doing too much and even sometimes they just hit me while I'm at rest. Hang in there.

Healing thoughts to you!
Meg

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure I could get off work if I need to, everyone is great and they even babied me the first couple of days. I enjoy working though and of course, with the holidays coming, the extra money is nice.

I am supposed to see my Dr. Dec 6th but I might try to get in with him sooner if this pain doesn't get better. I am going to take it easy this weekend and see what happens.

I posted that the pain is like a ripping, tearing sensation but it also burns. And it follows a specific path...just this one area of my abdomen/pelvis. Very odd! I found it mostly occurs when I have to use those muscles. It doesn't hurt too much when sitting down or lying on my back but I can't lie on my right side anymore, way too painful.

Thanks again and I will keep you posted.
