4 weeks or 6 weeks? post op appt

My dr told me no intimate relations with my DH and no lifting for FOUR weeks. from all I read on this site, everyone else's drs are saying SIX weeks. What do you think? He also wants me to come in at 4 weeks for my "exam" - but I am concerned I will not be healed enough at that point to really tolerate being "prodded". What do you think? Anyone else's dr say four weeks?
thanks
Lori

four weeks or six weeks post-op appt?

I had a four-week post-op exam and was told at that time I was 'all cleared' for any of my pre-op activities....exercise, walking more than up the street, travel, even intimacy with DH. Of course, I eased in to all of them and, yes, there was some tiredness and a bit of soreness for a few more weeks. Intimacy was NOT an issue...everything still worked well and was it quite an experience!

The difference between four and six week post-op visits could have something to do with the type of surgery you had.

Best wishes for a full, complete recovery![/

my doctor told me i could resume activites such as sex at four weeks but my appt isnt until 6wks, so i'm just going to wait until 6 weeks, if i were you, iwould just change my appt until 6 weeks, that would probably make you feel better i know it would me, i had a tah.

My doctor definitely plays it safe. I went for a 3 week post op check and was told to only walk one city block. Stairs are ok and driving is allowed but trips through the local grocery store are not advised. I still have restrictions re: lifting, vacuuming, etc. Intimacy is a definite no. I have to admit... I would rather be safe than sorry. Take it slow and be good to yourself as you continue to heal!!

Lori, hi there. I had my appt. at 4 wks (2 days shy of 5),he did a full pelvice exam. It felt kind of weird but it didn't hurt. He had previously said 6 weeks for everything but at this visit he said everything looked like it healed very well so , he said your a free woman and said you may resume sexual activities. Thank god! I didn't think I'd last another 2 weeks!!!!!!!!

I think it just depends on how you heal & if you have any complications. I've had a good recovery, no complications that required ant medical intervention. I did have some cranky plumbing when it woke up & a few bad hormone days but thats it. I did have a TAH/BSO with a vertical incision from my belly button to my pelvic bone. the incision healed better than my last c-section did! and it didn't tear open either!

Sex was kind of scarey the first time, a little tender & feels a little different. It gets better each time & I can still have the "Big O"! I hope that never changes!

If your dr. thinks you're not healed enough, I'm sure he'll tell you to wait & have you come back to see him. If you're healed enough he'll give you the green light. Just take it slow & listen to your body. Hugs & good luck to you, I hope it all turns out good for you.
