Am I selfish to want HRT
My sister had a hysterectomy and chose not to use HRT and go through it on her own. She thinks I should as well, tough it out. 4 years of her "toughing it out" hurt our relationship because she was well, you know.

Am I selfish to want HRT
It's quite simple - it's a decision for you and for you alone. I mean let's face it, you could take it and she wouldn't know the difference anyway if you didn't want her to know.
But it sounds like you learnt from her experience, so do whatever suits YOU!

I love it!
I love that idea! Tell her you are going to be tough like her and never let her know you are enjoying the benifits of HRT! That should drive her nuts that you are dealing with it better than she did!
Only you and your Dr. need to know!

Am I selfish to want HRT
I had the opposite problem. My sister had her hyster a few years ahead of me and she was violently opposed to my decision to have one! PLUS, she kept telling me that I would need HRT and went so far as to tell me what kind to ask for and how much. She told me all of the pit-falls of having a hyster (she had hers for totally different reasons than I did) and what horrors I could expect.
I thanked her for her advise, had my hysterectomy, chose no HRT, and am doing QUITE well!
She continues to tell me that 'the other shoe will drop...' and that I shouldn't be surprised when my honeymoon phase goes away. Well, I'm prepared for just about anything, but I don't know if I'll tell her if ever I DO go on HRT!!! I just wouldn't want her to win and have the last word!
Best wishes!

First of all i agree with it is up to you to do what is right for you! But as for the toughing it out? I am still trying to figure out why if you were able to have hrt and you are having symptoms why on earth you would want to tough it out!I have osteopeina allready from being on depo provera and if I tried to "tough it out"I could very well end up breaking a hip or something.I am only 29 years old and need my hormones! So I say if you can and want to go on hrt then that is what you should do.

i cant even imagine toughing it out for 4 years when relief was available. i wouldnt even attempt it. hormone REPLACEMENT therapy..."most" bodies need them replaced to function normally. if you feel you need them...you should take them without feeling bad because you couldnt tough it out.

I agree that is a decsiion that would be best made by you and your dr. Together you should be able to find what works best for the unique individual that you are.
Your sister had every right to choose what she wanted to do - just as you do for yourself. It's not a "one size fits all" kind of thing.

Am I selfish to want HRT
How could you wanting HRT be selfish? If you got HRT, would someone else have to give it up? Would the cost of the HRT deprive your family of other needs? I guess some people are judgmental about HRT the same way some people are judgmental about antidepressants. You really can't pay attention to people like that, even if you are related to them. Your quality of life is too important, and you can't go around feeling miserable because of other people's muddy thinking. Trust yourself.
Take care,
Linda
