Hello again ladies,

I hope everyone is recovering well . I just need to vent a little myself. It seems I have taken two steps forward and one step back everyday. I have a wound that won't close so it's being packed. I have to go to the doctors everyday for the next three days ( so tired of that place). I was feeling so good and now this. Dr said it is just gonna take some time that this is something that happens. Well lucky me!!! Oh well, other than this I can not complain. I have learned to ask for help and am glad to receive it. Good luck to all and happy recovery.

i think you can get the EZGrabber at WalMart, Target, any place like that, update on me, went to the doctor today and got the other drain out that remained after the TT, it wasn't draining any more healing fluid so it just became an infection risk, but yikes having that pulled out of my body with no local, no numbing, no nothing, that hurt more than anything else i have had done, but at least i'm drain free now, i just need to keep an eye to make sure i have no fluid buildup, so think good thoughts about that, now neither doctor (gyno or plastic surgeon) wants to see me for another month, they say it's just healing time now, i have to wear a compression garment (looks like a corset) for two more weeks, which is kind of bulky, but when i don't have it on, i feel like all my insides are just gonna slide out all over the floor, it's like my little security blanket, i had some second thoughts about the TT cause of all the post op "issues" but when i think of the removal of the uterus that was the size of a 26 week pregnancy, and all the extra skin that went along with it, i know i made the right decision, i'm at a loss of 25 pounds and counting, so say good thoughts for me an no fluid build up and i know all of us say prayers for all of our 'sisters' no matter what they're going thru

Day 18 - Progress steady

I made it through the shopping excursion on day 16 very well - after being out, I felt more energized, gas pains subsided considerably, and no major discomforts from all the moving around. Day 17, went out for lunch w/my co-workers (they came to get me so I could take part in the xmas luncheon) Again, being out felt great! Last night, was very tired - so I hit the hay early. Today, lunch w/Mom and sister. We have big snow storm coming tonight, so housebound for a couple days (bummer!)

The area around my incision - particulary above, is tender, but also feels tight - feels like (especially when laying down) that I want to stretch to relieve the tightness. I confess I have been bending and reaching since I got home and not supporting w/anything. It's not painful... but I feel it there...just a reminder to take care? Not much of an appetite the last few days ... I'm eating, but food doesn't have any appeal...

All in all, I feel progess is being made and for the first time since surgery - feeling more like myself. Only thing I find is the better I'm doing, the less and less help coming from my "helpers"... my garbage needs to be taken out (heavy lifting no-no) - and I need to vacuum badly...guess today at lunch I'll beg for help...feeling poorly in pain, need help (waaaaaaa).....

Have a good day all & best wishes for speedy recovery!

Just checking in. Each day I feel a slight-bit better than the day before, so I know that I'm making progress in the right direction. I am growing weary of the unending dull-ache like pain. I finally feel like scrapbooking. I find it very distracting, and the pain seems to vanish as I'm busy working. That is great, until I drop something and grab it and OUCH! I often feel sore after scrapping for a while. I think I need to alternate scrapping with resting and other activities.

I hope all of you are feeling better each day.

Hello,

My friend, who is going to be 47 this month, had a TAH on Dec. 3/07. She went into sudden menopause because she wasn't menopausal before the surgery. She told me she was going to take hormone therapy after the surgery.

She is scheduled to be off work until late Jan/early Feb. She lives in a two storey house and has to climb a few stairs to get to her bedroom and bathroom--both near each other on the second level.

I wanted to find out from anyone if it is too early to phone her or go over and visit and what I can do to help, if anything. I phoned her house 3 days after surgery (her mom is living with her for the first two weeks).

Her mom answered and said she wasn't taking any calls or visits at that time. I haven't called back since so I have no idea how she is doing and she hasn't called me back.

She has two boys age 18 and 19 (one in school) and a daughter who is 11 who live with her. She also has a 28 year old boarding with her who goes to university part-time but is currently off for the month of December.

Her two sisters live beside and across the street from her, so she has plenty of family around, including her step father who runs errands for her, using her van and her second exhusband (father of her daughter) also helps out.

After the first week, I dropped off at the door some sweet goodies for the kids and a meat pie (didn't go inside). Last week, I dropped off outside the door a bought lasagna and some pasta shells.

I would like to do more but don't know what to do. I would like to know how she is feeling but she hasn't called me and I don't know if I should call back or go over for a visit or what....

It will be two weeks tomorrow (Dec. 17) since her surgery. The two kids that are still in school will be out at the end of this week. Christmas is just a week away. Would it be too much for her to go out this coming week (for lunch or something??)......her birthday is coming up on Dec. 30th too....

Should she be feeling better after two weeks??? or after three??? or four??? or ???

Frostyy,

I left you a comment over on the "problems with friends" thread. I am experiencing a problem with a very dear, well-meaning, but pushy friend. My best advice is to just give her some space. That is the best thing a good friend can give to another in this situation. As for recovery, everyone is different. There is no set number of weeks, but I would guess that 2, 3 or 4 weeks is way too soon for your friend to feel well enough to receive guests.

I am 47, had my TAH BSO on November 30th. I am totally ready to go to lunch, a movie etc. But everyone is different!! I love having my family around but I LOVE it when the house is quiet too! Just me and the dog & cats! The hardest thing for me is not stepping in and doing stuff around the house. I want the vacume ran, dishes done, snow off the deck and the list goes on...and to ask for help, well I do not want to put anyone out more than they are already. They are doing so much for me...

Not sure if this helps...you know your friend o try to talk and see about what she feels like. Maybe if she does not want to go out, send the gang to a movie and have quiet time with or for her...???

Like I said everyone is different and for me I am on a roller coaster, today I am ready for a lunch date, tomorrow I want my peace and quiet and a good Christmas Movie at home.

I would suggest calling her mother, asking if there is anything she or your friend needs, then saying can you give me a little update on how she is, she is a good friend to me and I am just worried for her. Also ask her mom what kind of "spoil the princess" gifts she can think of for your friend for christmas. Then when you go also take a box of candy or some fudge for all her caregivers to share.

I myself am 21 days out and now I have this thing that went from a stomach bug to a horrible cold and no voice, as far as the surgery went I am doing quite well (but we are all different) but this bug is kicking my butt!

I am now 2 weeks post op for vag hyst, a & p repair and TVT taping, along with a few other procedures. I am still having rather moderate bleeding after stopping for a day. It is very uncomfortable to sit with a fair amount of pressure. I'm a little achy all over. Any others feel like this?

Frosty,
My advice to you is offer to take your friend out to lunch or bring in lunch for her. I'm 3 weeks out from a TAH (I'm 44) I had lots of family and neighbors helping me, but my biggest thrill was my friends who took me out for lunch and went to the grocery with me and carried my bags in the house. Maybe this will help your friend. Also a change of scenery might really be appreciated. My girlfriend bundled me up and drove around for about 30 minutes to check out the Christmas lights. Also, another friend offered to come over and help me wrap packages....lots of fun and a huge help since I still have lifting restricions. Hope these ideas help, you sound like a wonderful friend.
