3 1/2 months post-op, previous emotional problems

Hey gals,

I'm 3 1/2 months post-op of a TAH/BSO. I was diagnosed seven years ago with Bi-Polar disorder with Panic Disorder. Since my surgery I have become very depressed and have been hospitalized once since. I can't take any of the SSRI anti-depressants due to the fact that they can switch me into a manic phase, which I do NOT want. But there are some days I absolutely think I can not make it through the day. Any advice from anyone? I am also on Estridiol 2mg once a day. Thanks.

are you on any type of medication for the bi-polar/panic disorder?
you might need your hormone levels checked and possibly add more hormones or switch to something completely different. i would think being put into surgical menopause, along with your other conditions...would be very difficult to balance. i wish you luck...if you dont feel good, please see your dr or find a new dr that will help you

Thanks for your reply, and yes I see a Psychiatrist and am on medications that control my Bi-Polar so maybe it is the hormones that need the "tweaking". Thanks.

Hi, I was talking to the nurse in my doctor's office before my TAH/BSO. Because I have always struggled with PMS I was concerned about having my ovaries out, balancing my hormones, emotions, etc. She said that she was Bi-Polar and that having a hysterectomy had no effect on her Bi-Polar disorder once she got her hormones right. So my guess is if you were stable on medication before that you just need to do some hormone tweaking. Hang in there...you'll be OK!

s and Blessings!
