"I wish I hadn't...."

Is there anything specific that you did post-op that you feel perhaps you shouldn't have done? I know I had a couple, but I'll share the ones I learned most recently.

I wish I hadn't tried wearing control top panty-hose! Yeowch! By the time I got home that evening, oy, I just had to lie down and moan....

I wish I hadn't bought my favorite foods for post op. I had ZERO appetite and had to eat very carby foods (I usually eat all whole foods, made from scratch) to keep the antibiotics from giving me vertigo. Those favorite foods tasted awful and I fear several of them may be "ruined" for quite some time for me now.

Anyone else? I just felt I had dwelled at length upon my complications and thought we could use a litte shared wisdom and humor at this point.

"I wish I hadn't...."

I wish I hadn't been bullied ito worrying about work. My boss called me a couple days post op and said I needed to sign my reviews (I had them in in plenty of time, it was his review that did't occur until my surgery date). I was allowed to believe my not signing them would delay their receipt of their raises (true at my prior job).

I met him 7 days Post-Op at Starbucks and he was late (I didn't want him at my house as I decided when I was done, I was done) . I signed the reviews and then left. He issued the reviews in the 2 days prior to my return.

The second time I was out for surgery, I didn't answer my phone the 1st 2 weeks.

Lesson learned. Me first, work will get by,

Julie

"I wish I hadn't...."

I wish I hadn't assumed that I would have a complication free recovery. I live alone and I really didn't think through at all what my plan might be if things didn't go my way. I just assumed based on my great health and level of fitness that this would go swimmingly. The only thing I worried about really wa my sex life after - LOL!!!Since I have had 2 complications in a row, I have had to disrupt others lives to help me. I have also not had my own best interests at heart since sometimes I don't want to be a bother so I do things I know I shouldn't. if I had to do it all over.....I would have had a contingent plan.

Something Light - "I wish I hadn't..."

I only have 2 things that I wish I hadn't done post op...

First, I wish I hadn't worn my new robe following surgery when I walked in the hallways. I weeped through my bandages through my gown and right onto my robe. I still cannot get the stains out no matter what I use. I have tried all sorts of cleaners. Nothing. My sweet husband told me not to worry over it, but I do. It was a bit more than I would have spent on it.

Second, I wish I hadn't rushed myself to walk and be as active as I was when I was first released from the hospital. My belly is now even more swollen than ever, and my infections are still hanging around with me. Just more irriatated than what they should be by now.

I wished I hadn't gotten addicted to The Walton's reruns. My brother had withdrawals when I went back to work and could not send him my smart alec plot line summaries by eamil every day.
John boy was just starting Boatright. got dunked in the pond and had the brain tumor and I had to go back to work.

"I wish I hadn't...."

It's still too early to realize the errors of most of my ways, so I might have more to say at a later date.

I do have one thing I wish I hadn't done. On one of my "bad" days where I didn't want to get out of bed, I flipped on the TV and watched that TLC show, A Baby's Story (I think that's what it's called). I haven't watched that show in probably 5 years, and I don't know what possessed me to watch it that day. I guess I thought I had dealt with all my closure issues. Anyway, I ended up in tears and completely depressed. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Oh, what were you thinking! LOL!!!!

I wish I hadn't lied every time someone asked me how I was doing. Now everyone thinks I am back to my old self. I am 6 months out and still need help doing some stuff. I tire easily, can't sleep, I get swelly belly so bad I could cry, and I crave foods I shouldn't touch.

I wish I hadn't had those extra "drinks" without letting the others catch up. Ever since surgery, if I have a couple or more drinks it hits me so hard, I have even forgotten things for more than a few hours. MMMM <---no more drinking!

I wish I hadn't...
.... caught a bus 4 weeks post-op.
Buses are not an ouchyincisionswellybellyinnardsmush-friendly form of transport! Needless to say, I was very sore at the end of the day after being bumped and tossed around!

... picked up a suitcase that I thought was empty, only to find it was full of something (books as it turned out). Ouchy moment, but luckily did no lasting damage
