"I wish I hadn't...."

Thanks for starting this thread, I have enjoyed it immensley, thus far.

As for me, as much as I enjoyed it mentally, I wish I hadn't gone to a dinner the day after I got out of hospital...I ate the meal, which was about 5 times more than I normally eat these days...not comfy. I laughed constantly, which was an extremely painful experience, and to add insult to injury, I missed one lot of medication, which saw me in a world of pain by the time I got home. I spent most of the next two days recovering in bed.

I wish I had resisted the urge to lift my suitcase and bend and stretch to wipe out my shower when I was in hospital, because I did not want to put the nursing staff / cleaners to any trouble. Considering how much pain I was in, I was totally idiotic...unfortunately, there is too much 'pioneering spirit' in me, for my own good, at times.

I wish I had resisted the urge to get the washing in when no-one was watching... it tired me out and my tummy did NOT like me at all!!!

I wish I hadn't decided to walk and shop the day after I got out of hospital; the bright red bleeding I encountered after my idiocy frightened me witless, so I went and laid down.

I wish I hadn't just accepted the doctor's decision to release me from hospital. He was not my doctor (mine had gone interstate to his mother's 80th birthday, the day after my surgery.) I had chest congestion, was in absolute agony, and could not sleep due to the pain. I wish I had insisted on staying another day or two until my own doctor returned to see me for himself.

I know I have to so am going to try and relax more.
Making meals and doing the shopping leaves me exhausted, still; as I am only 2 weeks post-op, tomorrow.

Take care, all my dear Sisters

I wish I had not thought this would be like recovery from my laproscopic tubal ligation 7 years ago.....or my gallbladder removal when I was 22!!

Being over 40 definately adds a new dimension to the healing process and I'm learning this the hard way.

Happy Birthday!

I agree, I think we try to prepare our selves by comparing our experiences of the past. As we learn, each experience is by its self. Although there may be some simularities, each experience is new and this one (the hyst), is a big ball of wax trying to mold a new one!

"I wish I hadn't...."

Okay, now that I am further out (6 weeks), I will amend my wish.

I wish that I hadn't spent the last few weeks in denial, thinking that I really didn't need to see a doctor even though I have been feeling progressively weaker, more fatigued, losing weight, and feeling like I was going to pass out. I convinced myself it was all part of recovery, but it is getting worse and now I can't blame the hysterectomy.

I wish I didn't have a fear of calling the doctor's office. I should have called my OB/GYN and reported the problems I was experiencing. Didn't want to appear like a hypochondriac, so I didn't do it. Was afraid of looking like a fool, so I didn't do it. My DH begged me to call. My hystersisters told me to call. Still couldn't do it. Finally, I got up the courage to call and make an appointment with my internal medicine doctor for next week. It's not my OB/GYN, but it's a start. I wish I wasn't so afraid of what my OB/GYN doctor or his office staff might think of me!
