I am also 4 weeks today and have yet to see any stitches. The little book I got from the hospital said around week 2 or 3. After a LEEP procedure for cervical dysplasia in early 2006, my stitches disolved after 10 days. I actually thought that maybe they used the wrong kind this time by mistake and they weren't going to dissolve! (funny how your mind works) Anyway.. I will just be a little more patient.

I haven't seen any stitches either, but my doc said I might not until 5-6 weeks out. I forgot to ask him what color they are so I can make a point to look for them.

I had a SAH plus the ovaries taken and the doctor prescribed HRT patches. Despite these I am having awful hot flushes, which in a Sydney Summer is no fun at all. I did not expect any symptoms as I went through all this 9 months ago. Is anyone else on HRT and experiencing hot flushes.
I can relate to the lack of energy plus I have the concentration span of a gnat. I can't even read for more than 20 minuts. I go back to work on the 14th and at the moment I do not see how I can last a full day.

AnneGSydney,
I would definately call the doctor. He/she may need to adjust your HRT. I am not having any symptoms at all, however I know it takes our bodies time to adjust.

Hot/Cold flashes and dizziness

I'm 4.5 weeks post-op. Had abdominal hysterectomy - still have one ovary and my cervix. The other ovary had to be removed due to endometriosis. My situation is a little unusual. I had severe anemia and mutliple fibroids and the endo was discovered during surgery. Two previous c-sections dictated the abdominal incision. I also had my gall bladder removed and a hemmorhoidectomy at the same time. It's been hard to determine which procedure is causing which post-op issue.

I've recovered very well and even worked last week. My issue is the hot/cold flashes and dizziness. The dizziness is like bed spins. I'm wondering if one ovary is not enough to prevent early menopause - I'm 43.

Anyone else out there with these issues that still have ovaries?

((101)) NES - I did hear that sometimes when just one ovary is removed, the other just shuts down, so I would certainly expect full on menopausal hormonal issues could be very possible.

Best to you

5 wks-I feel good

Wow, 5 weeks already! I am doing & feeling so good. I have been good & not doing a whole lot for the first 4 weeks. But since then, I have started walking & day before yesterday my dog & I walked 1 1/2 miles. I felt pretty good yesterday morning so I got on my recumbent exercise bike & rode 2 miles in 13 mins(the control was on level ground & the easiest setting) . I started off very slow to make sure there wasn't going to be any pain or pinching. All went well, but of course I had swelly belly last evening without too much pain. This morning, I feel better than I should with even the swelly belly being gone. I can feel some tightness in my thighs & outer waist but no pain from the surgical area. I have to get back to doing some exercise as I have severe Arthritis & I can't afford to sit around for too long. I too have the low energy, need a break syndrome but I drag myself to do things.
My 2nd visit to my Dr. is this Friday, that's almost 6 weeks. I have been pretty much on my own since my 2 week visit, thank goodness for HysterSisters.com. She told me to try to do a little more each day, so I hope that she is going to be happy with my progress.LOL. I know that everyone is not alike, I think that I am one of the lucky ones to have not had as many problems as some of you. Wishing you all the best of health, take care of yourself & listen to your body-it'll tell you how it feels.

I still have both ovaries. My doc told me that the ovaries will go into shock after the surgery, and generally wake back up within 8 weeks. What that means is that your hormone levels could be all over the map until they re-balance themselves. I haven't had any trouble except that for the first 2 weeks I had hot flashes. Now they seem gone so I'm hoping that means my levels are getting themselves in the right place. My doc also said that some women need a little HRT for those first 8 weeks, but most don't. He said that if you can tolerate going without it, it ends up being an easier adjustment in the long run because you don't have to re-titrate it once the ovaries wake up again. Maybe talk with your doctor. I'm also 4.5 weeks post-op, BTW. Best wishes.

Hi stroutwoman
I was feeling sharp pains last week occasionally. Thought my UTI infection might be returning as well.
But the pain only lasted a couple/three days.
Been drinking tons of water so that feeling has also dissipated.
I have yet to see stitches. Had my surgery same day as you.
Hang in there.

Almost 5 weeks post op and went back to work today....that was an eye opener. I made it about 6 hrs and I knew it was time to go home. I came home and laid down for a couple of hours and feel alot better. Anyone getting ready to go back to work, make sure to listen to your body.

I also have not seen any stitches yet. I keep waiting and hope to see some so I know they are actually dissolving.

Wanted to say Thank You to all that have posted. This is a great site and wish I had found it prior to my surgery.

Good Luck to Everyone!!!!
