Total hyst Should I take HRT???

Any suggestions or others personal experience? I had a total hysterectomy at 48 due to many, many problems and a mother with ovarian cancer. Now with no uterus, no ovaries, feels like NO hormones at all! Any opinions on taking HRT/estrogens? I feel lousy without estradiol~~sweating, thinning hair, rough dry skin/facial hair, sleep problems, weight gain.

Total hyst Should I take HRT???

I also am 48 with a total hysterectomy, done for many reasons. I am taking estradol daily and am feeling well. At six months post op, I still have some pain in my abdomen, on the left side. I would rather not take the hrt, but my doctor was persuasive that I take it for at least the first year. I am sleeping better than I have in years, am not at all moody. I've maintained my weight, but am finding it difficult to loose any.

Question - why have you decided to not take estrogen replacement?

There are many benefits of replacing estrogen and other hormones. And most of them address the issues you are dealing with. Check out some of the articles on this web site that go into detail.

I chose to replace what was missing. I have family (mom and 2 sisters) who have been on Premarin for many years (25+) and still battle dry skin and aging. My mother, age 78, has strong bones. I can't imagine what it would have been like without any estrogen. I also have friends who are not taking replacement (age 63 with TAH/BSO at age 25) and she has had no symptoms and shows very little signs of aging. She has dealt with weak bones.

You have to decide what's best for you and deal with your symptoms. There are many pros and cons for both decisions. You might check out the great articles here on this web site that are full of information.

Good luck!

Thanks, Ruby

Thank you so much for the information. I'm going to start taking the estradiol again.

Total hyst Should I take HRT???

I take estradiol daily and I feel better. I have also recently added progesterone which has helped with the other issues I was having such as dry skin, bloating, loss of sleep, etc. I agree there are issues swinging toward both ways on HRT but I have found that HRT has improved my life greatly. But it is a personal decision and finding a balance is hard and requires patience. Lots of luck. Hugs
