Instant Menopause (Help Please)

Dear friends,
I am 1 week postop. Doing fine, except last night I learned what a hot flash is. Only this had to be much more than a hot flash.....I was up all night with it. I cannot go through another night like this. I was on the floor writhing for about 3 hours. I wasn't sure whether to call 9-1-1, take a whole bottle of pain pills, wake up my parents, or what. Walking around the house didn't help. I've got to get help. I cannot live like this.
I have some kind of estrogen patch, which I think I may have scratched off a day or 2 ahead of time. My dr. gave me an estrogen shot yesterday.
I just don't know what to do.
I have not even been able to take a nap today, although the symptoms are not quite as severe.
If anybody has any ideas for me, please, please, let me know. Private message if you'd like.
Help!
How long will this last?

Instant Menopause (Help Please) -- Update!

Hi
I am sorry you had such an awful night. I have had hot flashes, but have never experienced one that caused me any pain or was continual without stopping through a whole night. Have you thought at all about calling the doctor today just to get his/her opinion? I think I might. I learned through this experience not to hesitate to call anytime.

Good luck and take care of yourself.

I would definitely call your doctor. I've NEVER heard of a hot flash causing pain like you describe! Maybe you had a hot flash in conjunction with something else and the pain is related to that.

I've never had (or heard of) pain with hot flashes either. I, thankfully, haven't had any since surgery but went through them mysteriously many years ago for a time. Anyway - you said that you got an estrogen shot yesterday and then had the awful night last night. My thinking is you've had some sort of reaction to that shot and should probably call your doctor.

I hope you get it resolved and find something that works for you.

Thank you!
I do have a call in to the dr. I called at 9:00 this morning, and am hoping to get an answer soon. It was just a weird "episode", not just hot flashes. More like mental anguish, if you can picture that.
I guess it is possible I had some sort of reaction to the shot. I had placed my hrt patch on Sunday morning, and then couldn't find it yesterday. Maybe I had scratched it off during the night.
Also, I started an antibiotic yesterday, and I wonder if that might have something to do with it.
I am just praying for an answer.
Thanks for replying!

Since you were given a shot the same day that you experienced the problems --
I would wonder if that was more that problem than an actual hot flash --

Please call your doctor and explain to them what happened -- maybe the shot was to strong of a dose for you.

I just saw that you posted about taking an antibotic also -- could be an allergic reaction to that also

Grace,

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I had surgery in Sept. and I've been through ups and down for 2 months. Your body is still probable in shock from surgery and changes in hormones are hard on the body. I had anxiety, hot flashes and couldn't sleep well a week after surgery. I feeling better now and I'm finally sleeping. The estrogen shot could have an effect as well as antibiotics. I'll keep you in my prayers. God bless you. I hope it's short lived and you feel better soon.

Thank you, Kathy!
You give me hope. Yes, I'm sure it is a big shock on the body to suddenly be without estrogen. Wish I had more reserves.....
I am thinking now that maybe I had a panic attack....my mind wouldn't stop focusing on bad things......how I wished I'd never had the surgery and how I thought my life would never be the same.
Anxiety.
I am going home (have been w/my parents since surgery) Friday. I think things will get much better then.
Will keep everyone posted.
