Swelly Belly is so numb!

I know I'm only 8 days post-op from a TAH, but my swelly belly is so numb to the touch. It's above my actual incision. When will I get the feeling back? It is so strange to touch my fat roll and have no feeling. It's like touching someone else's belly.

Swelly Belly is so numb!

It is normal....and I agree it does feel strange...although I only had 4 one inch abdominal incisions for the lap surgery, the area was numb for a long time...the area right above my pelvic bone, I guess above my bladder is still numb....takes a while for nerve healings to mend....sometimes all or some or none of the feeling comes back, so I am told....if it is worrisome to you, ask the doctor of course....good luck in your healing

Swelly Belly is so numb!

Isn't that a strange feeling? I was grateful for it when they removed the staples and when I took off the Steri Strips. Mine sort of comes and goes. There are times when my skin is extra sensitive, then times when it's numb. A friend said hers was numb for about a year.

I also often can't feel if my bladder is full - hadn't expected that!

Swelly Belly is so numb!

I agree the bladder thing is really weird. I came home with a catheter, and the night after I took it out the dr. wanted me to get up every 3 hours and drain my bladder, which wasn't hard to do since I didn't sleep anyways.
My belly is numb also, but right now I'm grateful.
Maybe you can call your dr. and ask...if you can get them to answer!
I called mine 3 times yesterday and never got a reply.

I was freaked out by that too, but now it's something worse: it's so sensitive!! Anything touching it is like steel wool scraping over it, even my soft, extra large cotton granny panties! I'd rather it be numb!

Swelly Belly is so numb!

I'm two years post op, and I still have numbness in the area above the incision. My doc thinks it will eventually improve, but it's really impossible to say. I don't really think about it much anymore. Damaged nerves, I suppose. It's just one of those things you adjust to.

I had that also...it lasted a couple of weeks..maybe 2...very sensitive and just like you described..of course clothes rubbing on it was terrible..my doc said it was from nerve endings that were healing and coming back to life....luckily it goes away...although mine went back to feeling almost numb again...LOL

Swelly Belly is so numb!

Okay...well that "steel wool" answer answered the question I just posted! Thanks!

Years ago, I had a surgery where I had a 4 inch cut in my abdomen and it took months for me to get the feeling back.

I had my TAH almost four weeks ago and I'm still numb from abouttwo inces from my belly button all the way down to the incision. I think it's funny that, below the incision, it feels completely normal...no numbness at all!
