depression/whiney

Well, did the Wal-Mart thing last night, all went pretty well until the check out line. That was taking forever, so I went and sat down. Became overwhelmed with sadness, like now talking about it. My sister passed away in Oct. of this year, now I'm in the helpless boat! Finances weren't real good going into surgery, now looking at 4-6 weeks no income for me, Christmas in a few days, no baking done, none of my family here, blah blah blah. It just seems to really hit me at the end of the day, just all seems so out of my control. In the mornings, I feel good enough to do some light chores, plus my walking, by noon I'm ready for a nap, by dinner time I'm ready for the nuthouse. Anybody dealing with this, and any tips for me? Please tell me this will pass!
Mary Kay
PS, sorry to whine!

12/17/07 Tah

I'm back! I had a TAH along with my ovaries on Monday, 12/17. They released me late last night (Wednesday), but I was too tired to post anything. I just went straight to bed.

I don't remember much of Monday. I woke up in my room with another woman who'd had the same procedure (different surgeon), so it was nice to have someone in the room to share related pains and worries. My surgery was 10 AM on Monday, and they let me rest and didn't get me up at all that day. On Tuesday, they came in and removed the catheter, and let me get up to pee. They also let me take a shower (which felt like a small piece of heaven). I was on a liquid diet until Wednesday at lunch time, but honestly, I wasn't very hungry, so I only picked at a few things. They removed the staples last night and said my incision was perfect (the girl next to me was not so lucky---her's looked rather bad)

They sent me home with a compression wrap around my belly, which helps. The burning is a bit much around the incision, but it's getting better.

I'm on Percocet's (325MG) for pain, Iburprofen (800MG) for cramping, and Vivelle Dot patch for my estrogen source. So far so good.

I'll post more later, but all in all, I don't feel too bad. I think it's going to be a long six weeks!!!

Hysterectomy dates Dec 10-Dec 17,2007

I am now 9 days post-op. I had an abdominal hysterectomy on Dec. 11 and went home on the 14th. I've been most surprised by how major all of this seems. I was expecting a laproscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy--maybe that's why I'm feeling unprepared for the pain. I'm an athlete who trains and competes, so I was thinking I'd bounce back quickly. Also, I donated a kidney, and I figured that a hysterectomey was more "minor" than a kidney donation--but it seems just about the same! Anyway, I'm impatient with my recovery and surprised at how slowly it's going.
My other main complaint is the frequent hot flashes. I am sweating about every 45 minutes, 24 hours a day. These are caused by the Lupron injections I was on for the three months prior to my surgery. But my last injection was 40 days ago and it should be out of my system...and I kept my ovaries... I'm very tired of the constant sweating. I had never had a hot flash until the Lupron.
The only other issue is that my bowels are not on track yet. I did have my first post-surgery BM, and it hurt primarily because I laughed out loud when I saw it! But nothing for the past three days, so I'm not sure what's up with that. So I keep doing stool sofeners and prune juice.
Anyone out there who did Lupron injections prior to your hysterectomy? When did the side effects end? I guess I thought they'd end with the surgery.

On the other side

Hi Everyone,

I'm so glad to hear everyone is on the other side and doing well. This is the first day I have been able to get to the computer. I had surgery on the 11th and came home on the 14th because of a high heart rate. All the pain meds they tried really increased my heart rate. So, moving and walking was really hard but it's getting better now. I'm having a hard time staying in the house and relaxing. Relaxing is really overrated (lol).

I had a great stay at the castle I was truly treated as royalty.

I hope everyone is ready for the holidays.

Debbie

Doing well

Hi everyone- TAH with ovaries removed 12/10. Feeling great now. I have the night sweats and hot flashes (had them before too) I am 54 and already in menopause. I have my check up tomorrow--I may ask about the patch! Sore on left of incision still. More tired than usual(to be expected). Eating, walking, etc. normal. It's been 1 week and 4 days and now I just have to wait for strength and the ok to begin exercise(running), lifting, pulling, etc. and SEX! 5 weeks and counting!LOL Hope everyone has a quick recovery.

Good to see you Debbie..

I think there must be something wrong with me, because I'm finding it easy to sit back and be pampered..think I worked so hard in the run up to all this, I feel like I deserve a holiday!

Have had my wonderful sister staying with me picking up the slack though- and have a rising sense of panic when I think about her leaving on Saturday...she's cooking, ironing, orgainising, even took my son to the doctors this morning..

sympathise with lack of sympathy where teenagers are concerned. mine are lovely, and were great when I looked like ill, but now I'm looking okay, and moving about, they don't see any urgency in anything - ooh, it could become annoying..but I need to be philosophical about the whole thing - tension is not good for healing..lol.

Mary Kay, I'm sure lots of people are feeling like you. I feel better in the morning, and as the day goes on I can feel the energy draining away. Then I get quite tearful over nothing.

You sound like you have heaps on your plate...you haven't had time to grieve for your sister, let alone prepare yourself for all this. I lost my Dad in February, and have been thinking alot about him, first Christmas without him etc....please, please, don't be too hard on yourself..It's enough dealing with the day to day stuff, but this is just a whole new thing - but it will get better.

One good tip - use this site to vent, and keep things sweet at home..lol

love to all

Does it really matter that it is Christmas - sure your family would prefer to see you well, and not worry about the baking??

Hysterectomy Dec 17

Hi gang.

Ok, so after 15 years of begging to have this mess removed, I finally had my hysterectomy on Mon. Dec 17th. Yeah me!
Doctor was shocked by what she found. Ovary and cyst had attached itself to bowell, tons of scar tissue and a fairly large fibroid at the bottom of uterus. Funny how NONE of this was seen on the countless sonograms Ive had! Anyway, uterus, left ovary and scar tissue all removed and I feel GREAT from the inside. I am suffering with an extended belly. Swollen about three times normal size and it took two days before I had a BM but, I am able to walk, sit, stand and lay down without much pain at all. the oxycoden they gave me for pain made me sick to my stomach so I havn't been taking that. not very hungry despite not eating anything for 4 days. I basically feel like I was kicked in the stomach by a very angry horse! I KNOW this will get better in time, just feel a bit down right now because I was so excited to have this surgery and end years of constant pain.

Hello everyone, I had my vaginal hyst on Dec. 17th, everything went well and I was doing pretty good after the surgery, until the next day when I couldn't keep anything down, I was projectial vomiting (SP?) anyway, it was really rough, I got to go home even though I was throwing up and I haven't been sick since I got home, I have been running a low grade fever and I have terrible pain in my thighs. I had my uterus, cervix removed and A&P repair done with bladder sling. I also had a cyste on my ovary that we didn't know about that the doctor drained. I haven't had a BM yet and I am a little worried, but I am passing gas fine and peeing fine.Sorry I didn't post this sooner but I have been out of it with the meds and havn't felt like being on the computer.
