Yippee!!!!!!!!! UTI

I just got the best news in the world! I have a UTI. My doc just called and said they called and said to get me on ABT's as soon as possible. Man, that is wonderful to hear. I thought I was losing my mind. The pain and burning plus right flank was starting to hurt too. She said that is why I failed my pee trials! Oh what a wonderful day. Can't wait to get those pills. Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went to the Dr. today for 2week check up found out in my pathology report they found Fibroids too. I already have endo, uterine Varcies, and now fibroids. I was in total shock I could not even think right . My Dr. did take out all she could. Took out uterus left the ovies. My question for my fellow sisters is this does anyone know since she left my overies could fibroids still grow? I already know there is a possibility that the endo can come back. I just do not know anything about fibroids. Please help. any info I can get would be helpful.

Honestly, I don't feel that my doc completely leveled with me about the whole process before I began this journey. I didn't realize there would be all of this swelling, gas, long-term nausea, etc. Does anybody else feel this same way?

Same here! My TAH/kept ovaries was 12/12, and I did not know the first thing about the swelling, gas etc., either. I am very upset about the swelling, thank goodness my DH is larger than me, I can wear his jeans if we go out to the store. Dr's. answers to 'how long will it last?', not encouraging, a few weeks, to maybe a few months! Friend who had TAH almost 10yrs. ago not helpful either, I tell her I'm worried about the 'bored' snacking that I'm starting to do, she says, well it's the holidays, everybody gains weight. I so can't go back to being the fatty that I was a few years ago. My dr. also said he would use my original C-section incision, but it is more than twice as long! But, I guess 6 months of inconvienence is better than 10 more years of the garbage I've went through for the last 6yrs! I think most dr's only tell us the answers for the questions we actually ask. By the way, I don't see my dr until 6 weeks post-op, and reading other posts, that doesn't seem normal.

bulldoggrl,

My doctor did not say ONE word about anything regarding the recovery, etc. I learned EVERYTHING from this wonderful website. If this site was not available, I would be in even more shock about how my body is responding.

Whenever I have any questions, I immediately come here and inevitiably, the answers are here and I don't feel so alone in this recovery battle. Thank you sisters.

Had a giggle at the posts above, and for the first time didn't have to hold
my belly to laugh...must be progress.

Had UTI in hospital , explained a high temperature...funny isn't it. Makes you feel some relief just knowing what is causing a problem - it's the not knowing which is really stressful..

Mary Kay , I'm not going back to see my doctor till 6 weeks post-op, think that's normal. always have the option to see my GP if I have a problem.

The swelly belly thing is so common - this site is full of information on that.
I look almost normal when I wake up - spend a couple of minutes smiling at my nearly flat belly before getting out of bed.lol.. then by late afternoon, it feels tight, uncomfortable and really heavy(quite pregnant looking) - maybe a reminder to rest?

Just taking a bit of time to get over all that trauma I suppose - just because the outside is healing, think about all those dozens of stitiches on the inside, bruising etc..

Sarah, I don't think fibroids still grow when the uterus is removed-they either grow inside or through the uterine wall. I had one very large, and one mini one - and the whole point of my hyster. was to prevent them and more growing. Many women have them, sometimes loads of them..but not all cause problems.

My friend only found out she had one when she was pregnant and they did an ultra-sound - even though it was the size of a grapefruit, they haven't removed it because, apart from quite heavy periods, she hasn't had a ny problems with it.

I got quite attached to mine..lol. but was more than happy to wake without it. I was quite fixated on it by the end, and didn't even have worries about losing my uterus, because I was just thinking about this thing growing in me..

A few people have mentioned on here that they haven't received the understanding maybe they were expecting - my sister is going home today..bit nervous about that..

I guess I should consider myself lucky. Day 6, I expected worse, and I got less than that. My Dr referred me to this website, yeah for him. He has answered all my questions and told me it's going to take a while to recover from major surgery. All the pains I mentioned, ie: gas, BM, etc, he's said are normal as these things travel through the bowels, which were empty pre-op. He used my c-section scar, and stated he cleaned it up as best he could. It wasn't the nicest looking scar to begin with, but it sure looks pretty now, even though it's on a bit of a diaginal. I love first thing in the morning, flat belly, less pain, looking and feeling good. Then gravity sets in. Belly swells, some pain awakens, nothing to bad, just enough to let me know I've had surgery, and the bloaty feeling. I look at these things as reminders not to push the limits, and over due things. I think my Dr referred this site also, because of the support I'd need knowing that I'm not alone. This site gives you a feeling of normalcy that you can't always get from friends and family. You can be honest here and not worry about who's feelings might be hurt.
I am not a good patient, I'm a better care giver than receiver, so my DH has been a great and tolerant person keeping me within safe limits of healing. Even with the pain, I still wanted to respond to a fire call yesterday, knowing full well I would be an idiot going to try and fight a fire. DH has been pampering me, yet allows me to do just enough that I don't feel useless. DH wrapped Christmas presents last night, but did it the way I wanted. Certain wrapping paper, tags, ribbons and bows for certain people. He had me call my daughter, while he did this, and she reminded him that I'm a bit OCD with things, and this is how its done. The three of us on speaker phone was enough to have me laughing, which hurt, but felt good too. Feels better than crying. Doen that too, out of frustration. DH was again great. He hugged me and said everything will be back to normal soon enough. He reminded me not to rush and that he loved me. He reminded me that this was all worth not having pain every month. He then had me go back and "Sit here and be a princess." We just married in Sept, and he was always teasing me about dragging the "Queen for a day" feeling out. Well, I guess I'm still the queen for a day around here.
You all need to remember that you are not just Pampered Princess', but you are Queen for the day!!!

Natural remedies

I went through menopause not using any prescriptions. What worked for me was Evening Primrose oil and Black Cohosh both of which you can get at any herbal store. Allow two weeks to get releive (took 3 times a day). Once i got releive I would bak off a bit to find the dose right for me. You need to tell your doctor about these as if you have surgery they are what the Drs call bleeders (blood thinners). I took this stuff for 6 months and when I backed off I backed off so much that I didn't need it any more.

I am 57 and thought I was through menopause I had a ATHBSO and did not think I would have hot flases. I am having 2 - 3 a day but they are minor. I am starting to skip days of hot flashes. sister (a nurse) said that hormones are stored in my fat (forget the medical terms) and even though my ovaries stopped working they must have been producing a bit. Dr. says I am not having hot falshes - go figure! I just know what I am feeling.

so hope this helps - there are choices out there - just need to find out what works for you! Good luck!

Not receiving any replacement therapies as of yet. Feeling okay, other than tired. That is getting better each day. I do notice I'm more short on patience, but I was like that a few days before surgery too. I see Dr on Monday for staple removal. I will talk to him then as to what to look for. Normal for me is only a setting on the dryer, and since I've been in pain for years, I'm not exactly sure what is abnormal. Will wait and see, and continue to keep all your advice at hand. Thanks - K
