Blood Work Problems Post-Op

Good Morning!

I got my blood work back yesterday at 4 weeks post op and it is completely out of wack. My regular dr is very concerned.

My red blood count is way up, white blood count is elevated, platelet levels are very high, good choles is dangerously low, bad chol/tri/total chol went from low end of normal to high risk. I had my blood tested Oct 3 and everything was fine except for good chol being low. That is reason for recheck last Friday. Now, everything is bad. Including good chol dropping some more.

Has anyone had a similar experience? How long did it last?

I see my surgeon today and will ask her but any information about your experience or advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Nervous . . Help!

I never had this problem post op. But I have had the blood count out of whack before the hysterectomy for a while. It wasn't real bad, but I was sent to a hemotologist. He told me that blood counts can go haywire if you have an infection anywhere in your body. He said it can also happen with stress, simple sinus problems and colds.

I would definitely mention it to your gyn today and follow up on it.

Thank you for your reply.

I just got home from my surgeon. I have a serious infection in my vaginal cuff. Hopefully that caused it all.

I'm glad you found out about the infection now. Hopefully that is the reason for the blood work being off. I assume the GYN has you on some good antibiotics and plans to check your blood later.

Yep, I got an antibiotic shot plus 10 days of orals. I see my doctor the day after Christmas to make sure the infection is gone this time. I was diagnosed at 8 days post-op, put on antibiotics but the infection still hasn't gone away.

I found out today that I had early stages of cervical cancer also. I wasn't expecting to hear that at all. Feel kind of numb. She told me to be thankful that they took the cervix when they did. I am sooooo thankful.

Hi Michelle,

Glad to hear your problem is being taken care of.

I am practically your neighbor in Joplin. I had a TVH on Oct. 1 and have gone through a few glitches myself...along with most everyone else. I keep being told that it will get better with time...and before you know it you will feel like a new woman!

Did Springfield get hit as bad as Joplin with the ice storm? We just got our electricity on last night after not having it for three plus days. Our neighborhood looks like a battlefield with trees and branches everywhere!

Wow, yep right up I-44.

How are you feeling now after surgery??

Nope, we are doing ok so far. we were without power for 8 days last ice storm . it was awful. Our neighborhood looked like a disaster area too.

I hope it is getting better there.

Doing pretty good. Thanks. Sometimes things don't seem like they are progressing as fast as you like, but when I look back, I can see that I am doing so much better!

This ice storm seems to be much worse than the last ice storm that we both went through. The ironic thing is...last time we were without power for over five days...so I am very thankful we only went three days this round. Isn't it funny how much we take for granted?!

It seems there are alot of people experiencing infection of the vaginal cuff, I hope I'm not missing something, what would be the symptoms?

I can relate to the progressing slower than you think thing.

We have been fortunate so far on the ice storm. I've been stuck at the house so I haven't really even experienced the outside cold except to go to dr. appts.

My dr. said today that my healing is about 2 weeks behind schedule due to the infection. Vaginal cuff isn't healing at all.
