Tinylibrarian, I am so sorry you are still feeling angry & upset over losing your ovaries .... I can completely understand. Like I stated in previous threads, I kept both ovaries but against surgeons advice. (The surgeon was so angry at me, he did not talk to me preop or postop .... in fact, the only person he spoke to was my husband immediately after the surgery when I was in recovery & he told him the left ovary was attached & he excised endometriomas/cysts & the ovary will likely reattach & could involve a much more complicated surgery) Prior to my surgery date, the surgeon & I had talked back & forth via phone on this topic ... when I talked with him I could understand his rationale, but the truth is, I have to live with myself & be comfortable with my decision. I understand I may need another surgery, but for me the heavy periods & constant bleeding was more the issue from the pain from endo, so I think my problems should be at least 80% resolved. I was told once women go into menopause, endo is not usually an issue, since it is the estrogen that feeds the endo. However, my surgeon did tell me, if I did remove both ovaries (as he strongly advised) he would not start HRT until I was 3 months postop ("to give the endo time to burn out") The main reason I chose to keep my ovaries as I know estrogen helps protect you against heart disease (as well as other things) - - I have a strong family history of coronary heart disease - My Mom has it & my 40 year old brother had an MI last year. My Mom's btr dies of a massive MI at age 42. Also I have a clotting disorder (Factor V) which increases my risk of heart attack, stroke, embolism - & this is further increased with Factor V. (I have also been hypertensive & on med since age 30) Becasue of this risk, I was never a canidate for birth control bills. I consulted with other specialists (cardiologist, hemetologist) & they both said NO HRT with Factor V ; Only the surgeon felt it was ok to take HRT ... my PCP was "on the fence"
It's so easy to second guess a decision & hindsight is always 20/20, but instead of waiting 6 weeks for your appt, you can call to discuss his findings with you. I hope I did not spite myself re: ovaries - - I was so "nuts" not to have them taken out I made the nurses write a new OR consent & when again they wrote "possible removal of ovaries" I crossed it out & initialed by it. I am in the healthcare field, so sometimes I tend to be a little "too aggressive," but it is your body & you have a right to know.
Please keep us posted - hope you continue to feel better each day!

Walk, walk, and walk some more, even if you don't feel like it. This gets everything moving and will help with gas and bowl movements. It's really the best thing and I wish I would have walked more sooner than I did!

Thanks anomar for the advice re: walking - I almost wonder if I am spending too much time in bed & perhaps that is why I feel so crappy ... especially when I read how others are doing so well. I just called my surgeon earlier becasue I am still nauseated & have run out of Compazine & pain med. I did take MOM Sat, Sun, & Mon & FINALLY yesterday had a small liquid stool three times, but nothing further. Fortunately, my Mom has "moved in" for 2 weeks, so I have been taking advantage of her help & strictly resting in hopes when she leaves I will be up to return to getting back to the hectiness of everyday life. Thanks again for the tip & I am going to start moving more!

Post-total Lap 12/10

This is for pgiran; I read in a book from my doctor that there could be HUNDREDS of little stitches inside of us; I don't know if it's true, or how they know. Does the surgeon count them as they operate? I had a lap hyst and a gallbladder removal on 11/26.
I am getting there, but I am frustrated that I can't do everything yet. Also, does anyone know when it's safe to take a bath? My dr said no last week. I don't go back till Jan 9. Should I try it before then?
