Vacuuming OK at week 5?

It's been 5 weeks since my TAH. I've been back to emerg twice with issues, second time my inscision opened up as I was vomitting! Since then I've been really careful but am now wondering when can I start using my upright vacuum? I'm not one to sit around and watch others so this time has been so difficult for me. Do you think I can start vacuuming now?
I have my six week check on on Dec. 20...but my rugs need it now! I still have a fair amount of pain in my belly and can't sit up straight for very long at all. Eager to get going...Jo

I was told absolutely no vacumning for at least 6 weeks. Please don't risk it, especially as you've already had problems.
Remember that dust bunnies can't hurt you.

Vacuuming OK at week 5?

Thanks for your responses! I'm actually getting used to them...and my son and daughter in law are coming for Christmas a little early so I know they'll pitch in and help. I've also got this burning sensation on the left side of my belly button...just beside my incision...it seems to start mid day and comes mostly when I sit up straight for very long....like driving....it pulses and is quite painful...any one else had anything like this?

Vacuuming OK at week 5?

It can be frustrating to be curled up on the couch, staring at the dust and cobwebs that appear in the daylight but not in the evening hours when I'm usually home, and yet I'm not able to do much about them.

Who knew the door frames and mirrors and baseboards were so dusty?!?!?

Vacuuming OK at week 5?

Dust bunnies can be your friends...OK they drove me nuts, baseboards, door frames, windows...just don't do it...DO NOT Vacum, i tried it at week 6 since they are just area rugs (went home for lunch and couldn't stand it in the daylight), didn't hurt doing it, but that night and the next day were very uncomfortable. BTW my door frames and baseboards are still covered with dust and there is *something* sticky on the kitchen floor still.

Vacuuming OK at week 5?

The sliding glass door to the backyard was covered with the dog's muddy paw swipes and nose prints. I tried to make the best of it, and looked for any possibility of an image of Elvis in the mess. Maybe we could take photos and sell them on eBay! My daughter thought I was just hallucinating from the anesthesia...

It was worth a try.

I appreciate all the advice and love your sense of humour ! I was thinking I could pretend the cob webs in the corners were Christmas garlands! I have to admit I am a bit anxious to get back to normal but I need to have patience and realize that it is going to be slow....and that is better ...don't want any nasty adhesions plaguing my recovery.... I love the reference to the image of Elvis! I have a black lab and a miniature pom plus a black cat...so you can imagine the "tumbling tumbleweed" I have! thanks for responding...it's given me a smile today.

Vacuuming OK at week 5?

I was fortunate to have my 23 year old DD home still to do all my household duties, yet a while after my six weeks I was tired of sitting around and not allowed to do anything ,so I vacumned the floors and boy did I regret it the next day..

It is really horrible when you thought you had everything cleaned and taken care of before surgery, all the thinns you seem to notice when your just sitting there!!!!!

jmary56 - Love the garlands idea! We could just spray the dust bunnies and cobwebs with glitter spray!
