I had LAVH almost two weeks ago next week and was wondering how long it takes for the swelling to go down?

Also, I'm wondering if any of you ladies who went in for a two week post op had a list of questions that you had written and taken with you? If so, what kinds of questions should I keep in mind when I see my doctor next week?

Lastly, about what week post-op do doctor's do a pelvic exam? I am dreading that...

Thank you as always...

Hi there,

I have my 2 week on Monday...here is what I know I need to ask for now:

1. When can I drive again?
2. Sex again?
3. WIll the endometrioma come back on my ovary even though my uterus is gone?
4. I have a bump down there, can you look and see what it is?
5. I have very sharp, right side pain...how long will it last and what is it?

I am sure I will think of more.....

The swelly belly takes a while to go away. It will be worse if you don't rest!I had an appt 2 weeks post op. No internal exam. No further visits needed "unless I feel like I need it". Was told "orgasm anytime, nothing inside until 6 week mark". I wore a HRT patch home from the hospital so just went through the regular questions about that.

I am 8 weeks post op today. Still dealing with swelly belly when i am up all day. Still get tired easily. Hormones seem good.

Hope that all helps!

I had an LAVH on Nov. 23rd, 3 weeks ago tomorrow. My first post-op appointment is tomorrow. I imagine there will be an exam, but I am curious to know how the healing is coming along in there, so I don't mind. My doctor is gentle and respectful, so I trust her to treat me well tomorrow.

I still have some swelling, although less than during weeks 1 and 2. As I say this, though, it is now evening and my tummy is swollen. It was not very swollen at all this morning or afternoon, but once evening comes, it tends to swell up again. Very frustrating. I found it helpful to read about this on the post-op pages of this website. I'm glad to know that this is common and not a cause for concern, not a permanent condition, and not a sign of my gaining a bunch of weight. In fact, I weigh a little less than I did before the surgery, so I know it's not that. But I still feel like a little porker some evenings, anyway. Look for more info about this swelling business under "swelly belly" and in post-op information.

I'm at that stage where I want to do stuff I can't do yet, like shovel the snow on the sidewalk, vacuum, and have sex (man, this is a tough one--3 more weeks!?). But I'm heeding the advice offered here and laying low a few more weeks.

I'm planning to ask my doctor about getting into the hot tub, about sex (when is it ok to do what), about HRT (I'm taking estradiol because my ovaries were removed), about exercise, and about driving/flying for hours at a time. Basically, whatever has been on my mind that I've been uncertain about. There are suggestions for questions on the post-op pages here, too.

Good luck!

Thanks, Tam.
Is there a POST-op list also?

Go to the bar at the top of this page, directly under the HysterSisters title. Click on the "Post-op" category.

On that page, to the right, you will see the topic "Resources", then a list of options, including checkpoints for weeks 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6. After clicking a checkpoint, you should find a list of suggestions for questions to ask your surgeon, but you may need to scroll down a ways before you find it.
