For those of you who are having a hysterectomy this week I just wanted to stop by and wish you all the very best of luck. I am at the three month mark now and am doing very well. My best advice is to TAKE IT EASY!!!! Let people help you and rest all the time. Don't rush your recovery for anything. It is so important for you to listen to your body during this time.

Best Wishes!

Well...here I am. After the drive through hysterectomy. It really wasnt so bad. THe worst part of the whole thing was lying in the pre-op bed bleeding heavily due to ONE LAST HURRA!!! from mother nature. Went into surgery at 11:30am and was home at 5:30pm. I have a headache the size of TOLEDO, but I think it's from the anesthesia. A headache....LOL LOL. I have 4 small BandAids to show for the surgery and a bruise on my haand from the IV.
I am a bit sore, but the nurse made it clear that I need to stay ahead of the pain, and not to try to be a martyr...NUFF SAID. Vicodin every 4 hours will do. I took one at 6:30 and hauled myself into the waterbed from hell and slept for a bit. After hauling myself OUT of the waterbed from hell (read OUCH) I woke up a bit pukey and did get sick a bit, but as always when you are pukey, it feels better once you have done so.
I do understand the issues with doing too much since I feel pretty good and have this irrational need to do the dishes!!!! NOT GOING TO DO IT!!! I want to thank all the fellow sisters that post on the pre-op board and suffer our pre-surgery wimpers. I thank you from the bottom of my T.E.D. hosed toes.
My husband and I are now officially one complete person. He has foot surgery last friday and will be on crutches for the next 2 weeks. So far our girls (18-22) have been helpfull but I don't think they know what to do with parents that need help. I remember that feeling so I am being a patient patient. I will prolly hit the sack soon....do need to get back to bed, but the waterbed wrestle does not sound like fun!!!!

well I am home from the castle . I must thanks everyone here at this website I must say the waiting was the hardest part. well I got to the castle at 530am was in or at 7am . So i really had notime to think. I woke up in recovery in a lot pain, but happy to know they didnt have to do abdominal cut.Was back in my room with hubby by 130pm. Had my morphine button every 8 minutes so tha pain want to bad. I am trying to stop smoking so around 1000pm that night I had a freak out fit , and by that time the morphine was making me itch ( tearing myself up open scratches everywhere(ouch). Then after that I wanted to go pee and I have in cath. Resident comes in and says no not until tomorrow. She went to examine it and yanked. WOW I was seeing stars. I wish it was out but wasnt. So they decided to tape it to my leg. Said she would be back at 6 to remove she did . That was slightly painful, the painful part was the packing. I must tell you hubby tried to make me laugh and said it was like the clown car at the circus, He said close to 3 yards of packing in there, I was crying while it was being removed and he was in shock. well it was time for me to go home I was happy so was hubby. When I returned home my kids did all the decorationg for christmas it is beautiful

I am home from the castle

Hello Everyone!
I made it home from the castle on Wednesday. I am doing better than I thought. I was having abdominal pain after I had taken a pain pill so I chewed peppermint gum. My did that make a difference! I was so surprised. I am taking the pain pills as needed and I am walking every hour for at least 5 minutes. Today is the first day by myself since surgery so it ought to be interesting. I want to thank everyone at hystersisters for their advice. I was so prepared for the before and after surgery parts, I contribute my getting better to the advice from everyone.

I have to constantly remind myself to take it easy, but I am doing well. Thanks for the prayers!

Angie

I had TAH on Monday, Dec 17th. It was painful getting up and down out of bed the first 2 days, but within a few minutes of being up or down, I felt ok. I had a pain medicine pump for the first 24 hours. Then they took it away as well as removed the cathetar and IV. Removing these hookups did not hurt at all. I walked the halls on the first day and probably 7 times the second day. I was released to go home. Any pain I had was tolerable and is getting better each day.

Yesterday I went to the doctor because I have an ear infection; also went by the video store to get Sex in the City on DVD. Got up to eat meals, etc. And had a bowel movement this morning. All in all, I feel like I'm on the mend. I just wish my earache would go away! My purpose in writing this post is to let the ladies who have upcoming surgeries that it is doable and manageable and can be much better than many posts indicate here on the net.
I'll keep you informed as to whether I continue on this fast track path.
