Hi there sounds like you must have been a really active person before surgery and since you/we are basically house bound we are not getting enough excercise to make us sleepy. I too get some of those very sharp pains and I am 11 days post op...I had abdominal hys/bladder/cyctocele/rectocele had my staples out last week and the dissolving sutures below take time. I had burning and pinching across the belly until staples were taken out. I try not to take the pain pills because they are constipating and the colace sometimes produces very violent bm's I took the advice of someone here and eat grapenuts everymorning and it really helps. You should try and get some books to read or a computer project to maybe exercise your mind and maybe youll get sleepy by night. My DH got me a russian course cd to learn and an orgami project for everyday (should I want to make a paper mess that is) and my DS got me a set of books to read. I do alot of rolling to my side to get up and down, not easy to remember when the phone startles you but good for our tummies anyway I do hope you get some natural sleep it is good for all of our recoveries...my best to you DD

I had my first outing (not counting to the Dr) yesterday. Went to Target for about an hour and a half. I was in some discomfort by the end of that time and didn't do much the rest of the day.

I'm definitely having insomnia issues. No nap, and physically tired, and can't go to sleep--aaarrrggghh!

Boy do I see myself in some of these posts!!!

Karibear -- yes, go to the doc, since you might have something other than "shy bladder" ex. UTI, or the like. (part of why I had this surgery was so I *could* pee consistently!!!)

Anyway -- I walked to the mailbox yesterday with our dog, then we went to my in-laws yesterday afternoon, and I slept most of the way up. My stepdaughter got her permit (I was in the car, wasn't too bad, found a poker game in the glove box). Then we went to see my in-laws, and were there for a couple of hours. Was awake the whole way home; we stopped for a quick dinner, and got home around 9. Found that, even with using the tummy pillow in the car, my midsection was hurting (fortunately not directly over my incision, since I had a bikini cut). Fell asleep in front of the TV.

I actually feel better today than I thought I would -- was wondering if I'd be in the chair all day, but that doesn't appeal to me! So I might ride with my husband to a store about 45 minutes away for the racing gear oil he wants, then stop at Trader Joes on the way back, as well as the shop that sells my makeup. I think I'm feeling up to it! Besides it gets me out of the house while stepdaughter and friend watch Charmed on DVD, LOL.

But there's one thing that's driving me nuts:
Grrr. Plus I found that the one thing that wasn't done well at the hospital was my pre-op shave! That itches too!

So keep up those pain meds, as itching is the lowest form of pain!!! (ice packs help too)

Also, I haven't had one spot of discharge since surgery until yesterday, nine days post-op. Now I need a pantyliner for a pinkish tinged discharge....very little but it's there. The phone rang very early yesterday morning (wrong number) and I sat bolt-upright on the couch. OUCH!! Now I'm wondering if that's the cause of the leakage??

As for pain, I'm still taking Darvocet occasionally. I've learned from other posts that my gas pains are "normal" and that the Senekot-S that the doctor ordered wasn't meant to be a one-time dose. I discontinued it after the first BM (four days post-op) and thought I was cured...wrong again. Does anyone know how long that problem may go on? I still take Senekot-S before bed every night, but I really hate it.

One more question: What is the deal with the insomnia??? I didn't nap all day today hoping to sleep through the night. I went out around 10:30 and woke at 2:00 to go to the bathroom. After about an hour I took a Darvocet AND a Rozerem (sleeping pill) and here it is 6:30 am. I am normally a medication weenie... Nyquil can put me out for 24 hours.

Glad to hear there wasn't any malignancy! That is great!

My sitches on the outside have disappeared. It could be from showering, but I am not to scrub on them. So, I just let the water run over them. My belly button one is also the sorest of the 3. In fact, this morning I was pulling on a blanket and felt the pain then.

I had spotting (pinkish and brownish) for about 10 days after the surgery. It has now turned to yellow.

I also find that I can go up to bed at 9:00 and not fall asleep until 10:00 or 10:30 which isn't normal for me. Usually once my head hits the pillow, I am out. I am not waking during the night unless my 7 month old wakes me up to eat.

Well, I am having several hours alone at home! My MIL is possibly going to buy our SUV and she wasn't sure it would fit in her garage which it does fit! So, my DH took both kids for a ride to MIL's which is 1 1/2 hrs away. He is then going to take them over to his aunt's house for them (2 aunts) to see the kids and then back home. So about 5 hours free for me! Hope this rest will be good enough so that I can actually go to church tonight!

Dawn---lucky you! I "thought" I was going to have time alone tonight, but plans changed, and instead of being alone, w/have an extra camper on board..DD is having a friend spend the night. Not all bad, though. They entertain each other quite well so I'll just sneak back to my bedroom and stay put there.

Took a short walk this AM and enjoyed it very much. Only problem is that anytime I do anything mildly phsyical, I feel nauseous for quite a while afterwards. Does anyone else experience this?

I missed you al yesterday. I wokup at 3am vomitting fromthe Tylenol III I took. Dumped the rest. ACK! It took until 5 pm to get any anti-nausea meds to stay in. I am feeling much better today but worn out! I hurt all over.

If my mother calls one more time to tell me that what I think is wrong I am going to have a fit. She told hubby it wasn't the pain pills that made me sick it was the antibiotics. Why was I throwing up at the hospital when I hadn't had any of these antibiotics yet then? She also said she thinksmy dr is terrible because he wouldn't listen to her questions. This from the same lady that brought me my grandmothe's death certificate to look at after surgery. She died from Uterine Cancer. Why do I need to see that after surgery??? Why did she not bother to tell me that 5 years ago when I started having problems and was too scared to go to the dr? There is no cure for stupidity.

Oh Kathy sorry to hear about the vomiting Codeine is #1 for causing upset stomach especially if you don't have food in your stomach, I am a nurse and we give Tylenol#3 for post op biopsy pain because it last longer than an IV med but darn those who have empty stomachs they are always the ones who throw up so my sympathy is with you...Also family is important but so is a QUIET peaceful environment to relax our tummy muscles and naturally reduce our pain..On Christmas my DS visited from Austin and was playing the videos so loud that I could feel my stomach tighten and I had to excuse myself early and go upstairs to bed, left him with DH to entertain him so all love aside it is YOUR TIME right now to relax without family annoyances or arguments they will have to understand you just aren't up to the normal chit chat debating that you may usually do with them ...I was on Levaquin post op 1 week what are you on and for how long? my best to you DD

Good afternoon ladies- I slept in late today so I didn't get to the computer before now. Had some trouble sleeping last night...I kept waking up to pee. Maybe I need to lay off the the diet soda during the day. Enjoyed shopping yesterday with the girls and my DH...got some new shoes that I can slip on and don't have to bend over to attempt to tie...God bless the little things in life. My girls took their cousins to see a movie so it's just me and my DH...I think we are going to go grocery shopping and out to lunch if I can do it. I am going to miss having him and the girls at home when they go back to school and work on the 2nd. I think having 6 weeks off is simply going to drive me nuts. Maybe once I can drive I will stop up at the hospital and visit some of my co-workers. anyway I hope everyone has a good and PAIN free day.

afternoon- all.
i am so trying to cut down on pain meds today - anyone else experienceing the rebound headaches?

I see soonlyme53- you mentioned mentioned violent bm with colace? not sure if that meant painful or lots or what?and while im only taking minimal dose of colace, and bms are regular but are still extremely painful- feels like it ripping insides out yet.

I slept in my own bed upstairs last night. it was almost nice to hear the humming of dh sleep machine. but i think the stairs gave my inscision a workout. im feeling that ache some are commenting about in the hip/goin area today.

Im still content doing laps around the house. am hoping if i behave this weekend yet - i will be able to walk when school opens next thursday- they have open walking in the halls at night and its only 10 min. away- (everything else is a half-hour)

anyone planning get togethers for new years? we always get together with another couple/family - i am just worried ill fall asleep before new years and be a party pooper- so havent ask them yet. Any thoughts- should we just hole up this year, or do you think guest would understand?
