Good evening ladies - I have been kind of lazy today just not wanting to do too much other than lay in bed and watch football (yes I am a big football fan) I did venture out with my DH in the AM to get his mom something but that was it. I think it's good to see that we all recover at a different rate. even though I had a tAH I couldn't even imagin walking/hiking for 3+ miles but I have ventured out to do some shopping. Anyway don't get discouraged if you are not doing as much as others...you have to listen to your own body and roll with that. I tend not to listen too well which is probably why I am laying low today.....go figure. What is everyone doing for new years eve??? We are going over to some friends to play some board games. should be fun! well my bed is calling my name I hope everyone has a restful night. I will check in tomorrow for the last day of the year.

supportneeded and suzyqsuzyq - thanks for the posts. I was feeling a little down because this week I have been having a major setback and feel like I should be able to get out and do more.

The first week I felt great - then this week the pain kicked in. Today I broke down and called the dr's after hours number and asked for some pain meds (his office is closed until the 2nd). I had some percs but they had run out - so I was trying the motrin thing and not getting anywhere with them. I felt like such a big baby. The dr called me in some tylenol 3's and assured me I wasn't being a bother calling on a Sunday. I feel a lot better just knowing that I won't have to just depend on the motrin AND I won't have to wait until Wednesday wondering what I can do about pain. I hope you all are right and the third week goes better - 'cause week two was not fun at all. Hope everyone's weekend went well.

Hey ladies. Hope everyone is doing well today. I decided to venture out last night. We went out to dinner then to the store to get accessories for my son's camera. We were gone about 3 hours. Today hubby wanted to go get the surround sound system he has been eyeing since before Christmas. It was his present I guess........lol. I even convinced him to get the 40" tv to go with it -- my birthday is in a month. It sounded like a good reason to me. We were gone about 4 hours tonight. I am not feeling too bad. Some pain in my upper right side where I had my gallbladder removed. I am wondering if it is scar tissue from that surgery. I guess I didn't pay it much attention before as the other issues where more prevalent. I am going to try and go back to work on the 7th. I will only work a short day as my check-up will be that afternoon. Hopefully it will go ok. I teach pre-kindergarten (12 children) with an aide between the two classrooms. I told he rto just keep reminding me not to pick anything heavy up. I hope they have put my room back together enough after waxing the floors.

It is nice to see the new faces today!

Hello Ladies! I am 11 days out from a TVH leaving my ovaries. I spent 1 night in the hospital and took the first few days at home really easy, didn't leave the house for 6 days (mostly because we only have big trucks that require my husband to lift me in right now and ride bumpy). Last night we did our 1st social outting visiting a friend in the hospital and going to another friend's for the fights on PPV. I was worried about being out so long but just kept up on my pain meds and took it easy. Today I even felt well enough to go get our family pics taken! I finally feel like I'm on the road to recovery and am actually a functioning person again! NYE we're just staying home which I'm actually looking forward to. We normally have a big party at our house, but no way this year!
Now that I have had so much time on my hands, I'm wondering about the mechanics of what my ovaries do now. I know I'll still have hormone changes, but no monthly bleeding right? What about my eggs - where do they go? I asked so many questions about the surgery and my uterus, I guess I didn't give much thought to my ovaries afterwards. I was not prepared for the hot flashes either, today is the first day I've been flash free. Wahoo!
I am barely spotting, just wearing a pantyliner. I also feel pretty good, just achy like prementrual cramps, and some achy burning near my pubic bone.
Anyone else have a TVH on 12/19? Would like to hear how your progress is going!

Hi all.

My recovery is still going pretty well. I have my two week post op appt. this thursday (Jan 3rd). My boss states that I cannot come back to work until after the post op appt...bad for me as I am already bored out of my mind at home (work is closed from Dec. 21st till Jan 2nd anyways). I have gone for short walks and things, but think I may have over done it as the past couple days there are now sharp cramp like pains around the one incision site and I started bleeding and for the past couple days it has been getting a bit heavier although I have not increased my activity level...if anything I have decreased it. I thought it was weird that I did not bleed at all in the hosptial. So needless to say I am keeping an eye on this.

Has anyone had insomnia before? I have got a case of it and I have never had it before and do not know what to do to shake it other than take something to knock myself out.

If anyone has any suggestions with insomnia it would be greatly appreciated.

That's what I've been wondering too. My dr. said I "might" have mini-periods, I HOPE NOT, but I don't about the eggs.

Okay...another weird question. I had a LAVH on 12/17 and my three tummy scars have been healing nicely, but the one to the left of my belly button has been bothering me and my DH has been telling me to leave it alone, but finally today he looked at it and all three scars have healed but there are nylon stiches that have grown into the scars and one of them has "poked" out of my scar and that is what was bothering me. I thought they used dissolvable stitches? I am going to call my doctor, but was wondering if anybody else had nylon stitches used to close up your laproscopy insicions?

The very, very worst pain I have had so far is when I sneezed yesterday. Ouch.

Hi ladies,

I'm almost 3 weeks post-op from my LSH (kept ovaries and cervix). Last night I had my first night without any drugs (Vicodin or Advil etc.). It was nice. No strange dreams. I still had insomnia. What's up with the insomnia? I feel good. No real mood swings. Hot flashes only at night. I'm able to sit up a little longer each day. I went for a long walk (stroll) and lied down afterwards but still felt good. I still have gas but it isn't as painful as it was immediately after operation. Tomorrow I have my first Post-op appointment. I'm scared she may tell me I can go back to work soon. I don't want to. I want at least 2 more weeks. I'm feeling stronger each day (well, some days I'm okay and the next I'm wiped out). I still have a little pain on the left side where there is an incision. I still feel tugging and pulling. Maybe I should stop making up the bed and reaching over. Anyway, sorry for the lengthy message. Just wanted to vent and check in. My family is really chipping in. My DH is a doll. He does dishes, make sure I rest, entertain the kids, and looks after my mother who lives with us but will be staying with my sister in two days until March .

Hi Everybody,

Thanks for all your answers to my questions in my first post. I'm doing much better except for the insomnia. I read and play lots of computer solitaire and do a little cooking and light cleaning. Not much though; I'm afraid if I start acting too normal I'll lose my help!! I went to Walmart with my DD tonight and bought some stretchy workout pants...I still have quite a "swellybelly" so my jeans aren't working yet. I bought some Gas-X; sure hope it works. I don't have any experience with surgery or GI problems so I've never really dealt with issues like these before. I wouldn't have had a clue that these problems were normal (or common) if not for this forum. Even though I haven't been posting I've been reading everyone's and appreciate them more than I can say.

Were any of you told to expect a weight GAIN the first month post-op? I remember my GYN telling me to expect up to 10 pound due to swelling and water retention, but that it would disappear after about four weeks. I'm hoping, because I've actually lost about 5 pounds even though I feel really swollen and my jeans won't button. I wish I had a follow up appointment sooner...not until Jan. 16th.

Well, here it is 3:00 am and I'm still wide awake . I didn't nap all day and thought my little outing would wear me out. No such luck. I think I'll try to read myself to sleep. Goodnight everybody. I hope we all have a good day tomorrow
