It's funny you mention chili; that's the only meal (aside from some scrambled eggs and the occasional grilled cheese) that I've made since the surgery. It's so easy--even if one doesn't have a spice packet. I just use plenty of fresh onion and garlic and add chili powder and various other herbs and spices from my pantry.

Somewhat similar, but with an italian flair: brown the ground beef and spice like you're going to make spaghetti. Add a couple of cans of tomato soup and then some fresh or frozen spinach. Very quick and yummy soup!

lincolnlady, im between midland and saginaw. so what area area are you freezing in this morning? computer says its a whopping 10 here this morning. ive read that about heeling using more calories, wondering how long it last and if i need to increase calories to allow for it? Have kept the protien intake high and am taking vitamins.

Princessm- dont wait for appointment to get results. my post op is the 17th also, but my dr. had results of path. report last week when i called to ask. (thank goodness mine was A-OK by the way

anyone here have generalized anxiety to start with? this lack of walking and exercise is messing with mine big time. Nightmares (without pain killers) and just general uneasiness.

Good morning sisters.....Fand R I guess we are the only ones up? Or are we the only ones who haven't gone back to work yet???? My incision feels sore today...wonder if I have done too much the last couple of days or just because I am on advil (but did take 1/2 perc for bed). Do you think squatting (not bending at the waist, like a deep knee bend) is OK to do? It isnt bending.....

I have been squatting the last couple of mornings to feed my dogs. I still let the kids take them out, but I can hold all the bowls and squat to give them their food and water. Is that bad? And I have done it a couple of times to get something off the floor that I absolutely had to get.

I am also puzzled by the weight loss thing as I have lost 6 pounds, but thats OK because I really had a goal of like 20. I lost 50 4 years ago and gained back 20 in the last two years, I want to take that off so I feel like this is a head start....anyone know how long our bodies work like this....do we suddenly gain it back, and stop losing, or does the losing just slow down? I hope after my two week check up he clears me for walking on a tread mill, or walking the mall (they open early in the morning for walkers) Planning on a low key day today until hair cut and color at 2 (woohoo). Have a great day all..look how far we have come.... - Suzyq

Fit&ready: I live in Oakland County, Rochester Hills area. My hubby said it was 7 this morning when he got up to go to work.
I was also anxious about not exercising and gaining wait, but I had lost 13 pounds in the first 2 weeks after my TAH and knew that it was from not eating and the muscle atrophy. I did gain back 3 pounds over the holidays and I think because I have been walking around so much more the muscles are coming back, not like weight training, but that will come in time after my total recuperation. I'm just trying to take really good care of myself so I will be ready to gain back what I've lost. Just remember...you only have one time to do this right! You have the rest of your life to get back into shape. Enjoy the rest and try to stay warm today!!

This is the first day in 3 that I haven't been woozy. I'm planning to go to our Chancel Choir rehearsal tonight, because I'm subbing for the director next week, have to get back in the loop.

I've been squatting too (learned it when I was a back patient), and it seems to be OK for certain things -- I don't feel too over-extended when I do it. Fortunately my dog's dish is right by our dinette, so I sit down to feed her. She also accompanies me when I walk to our mailbox down the street, I just have to watch that she doesn't pull much.

I'm trying not to watch the scale too much right now. I know that I lost at least 1.5 lbs just by having my fibroids removed, and that I can work on the rest when I get cleared for more vigorous exercise. Now that the Christmas cookies are gone I'm also not eating as much :P

Morning ladies, or should I say almost afternoon! I just love sleeping in. It will be hard to get back into the routine of getting up at 5:30 am every morning when I do go back to work......I'm not gonna even think about it for now

Yesterday I didn't do anything other than load and unload the dishwasher. I was pretty much a slug all day. Today, I feel awesome! I'm planning on doing some work from my remote desktop to the office and work on my company's budget for 2008. I didn't get it finalized before my surgery, so now it needs to be finished before the next Board of Advisors meeting at the end of this month. Luckily, I work for a landscaping company and there's nothing going on in January and February, so having the budget in place is not that crucial.

I'm hoping to get in to see my doc next week and hopefully get the green light to drive again. My plan (we'll see if it works), is to be able to drive again by the 14th and then work a few half days each week until the 28th and then go back to full time. I'm dying to get back to aerobics, but I know that has to wait before I can get back to it.

I'm going stir crazy

I'm going stir crazy too! I'm hoping to get clearance to start easing back into things. When I'm bored I eat, and right now I'm pretty bored. Although I've lost 9 pounds, so maybe I'm not doing too bad. It'll get worse, though, if I have to sit around the house for much longer.

This was the first day in many, many days that I have slept in late. Previously, the insomnia that kept me up late also meant that if I woke up (to pee, say), I was up for the day. It was kind of nice--I figure maybe I need to store up energy for tomorrow. I see the Dr. in Dallas again (it'll be a full afternoon, but DH is driving me! He's so good to me!).

Has anyone heard anything about doing kegel exercises yet? I thought I had read that we were supposed to, but now I can't find it. I did some yesterday and was terribly achy all night. Any thoughts?

I was given a pamphlet on Kegels, but wasn't given a date to start them.
