I am still on the pain meds2

Wish I had read B4 writing, I too am having horrible P.M. sweats. But I was in menapause for 6 yrs. prior to surgery.
I am still in pain and on an elixer (Vicadone/Tylenol) due to the NG tube couldnt swallow pills. Trying to take it only 2x's a day but sometimes I need it 3. As I said I believe with my weight issues he probably had to put hundreds of internal stitches. My lower back is killing me and I am worried about the Radiation I need. I too gained 10 lbs in the 2 week hospital stay I was really mad as I had just lost alot of weight. But the Dr. said it would show as I lost all the fluids from bolie bags and IV's so I am now down 5lbs from the day I had my surgery. Guess we are all pretty much in the same boat. Hug's Ladies,

suzyq- im going to gym only because walking in michigan this type of year requires inside walking... and those before numbers for weight lifting are impresive. My dr. said only 2lb ones at home now too. Before, Did you use the nautilas machines or free weights? since we only joined a couple weeks before my surgery- i excited to begin the overall experience.
Im only down 5 lbs. since surgery and also and fret each dau im out of comission how much more will come back. Just hoping the little walking im doing evens it out.
I was sore after yesterdays all day outing. It feels like the incision is tightening and pulling a little now. I did take an 8hr tylonal last night to make sleeping more comfortable... but still tossed and turned mid- night for a while.

First, let me say it is a relief to have found this site recently. Everyone is so compassionate and understanding. I do have one question: I went in for my post op exam at 3 1/2 weeks for my and do not have to go back for another one at 6 weeks? (I do have to follow up every 3 months for the next 5 years with him--stage 1 edenocarcinoma of the cervix--they did a TAH but left my ovaries.)

I know because of my age, 28, and the fact that I've bounced back quickly (no pain meds or ibuprofen) because I was running 5 miles a day before the surgery, the doctor said I look about 10 weeks out, not 3 1/2. But I know internally I'm not healed...and if I overdo it, I spot a little bit... So, is it okay that I don't have to go back in in a few weeks to get the "all clear"? The doctor has been wonderful throughout the shock and difficult situation and I'm sure he'll fit me in, but if it's not necessary then I don't want to bother them...

I am hearing a lot of you complaining about right side pain.

I am starting to wonder if my doc removed my appendix also. If he did I would have had to sign to have it done. I did have my remaining ovary removed on the right side.

I think most of my abdominal pain is due to using the crutches. We use our ab muscles if we use lots of arm strength. Hmm I think I am lifting more then 10 pounds when I lift my body up stairs. So much for weight lifting restrictions.

I am allowed to put my foot down now but can't walk on it yet. This makes the bathroom activities so much fun. Especially the shower. Our shower is not big enough to put a chair in it. I can't wait till I can take a shower by myself again. Just getting in and out of the shower is a challenge with that little lip that I need to hurdle over. It gets more interesting when the floor gets wet.

My honey just waits outside and catches me just in case. Of course just in case is every time I get out.

I started working out 5 years ago 1/11/03, by hiring a personal trainer (who became a good friend) I followed his diet, lost 50 lbs., 36 total inches, competed in 3 strong woman competions and became a personal trainer myself, all between the age of 43-47. I was the queen of the couch potatoes prior to that.... However, I started a new job 6 months ago that requires a longer daily drive so my 5-6 day a week gym routine has been more like 2X a week, then I think I was sick from the endo and didn't know it, and put back about 15 pounds over the last two years.

Now that I have the surgery behind me, and am now in surgical menopause, my goal is to take the best care of me I can, heal, use great supplements, have a clean diet and get back to my exercise routine (all be it slowly). I plan to treat myself to a tummy tuck this summer if I can get the weight down and the toning back up. In answer to your question, most of the time I use free weights, but I do use some machines because if you don't switch up your routine your muscles adapt and you won't make gains. If you are just starting out, you would want to use the machines first until you have more muscle tone. A big mistake people make is going too heavy with free weights before they have learned proper form, not only do your muscles not get the best workout, but you can hurt yourself. If you have private trainers in your area, it might be good to treat yourself t a couple of start up sessions, get a program for you....and maybe another session in like 6 weeks when your program needs updating.

I was alway a perpetual dieter, and until I saw the impact that weight training can make, I was a lazy person. Now I see increasing muscle tone, burns more caloreis and you can really reshape your body.... sorry I went on so long but it gets me all excited to talk about....be happy to answer any questsion...feel free to PM me if you want to chat more. - Suzyq

Good morning Princesses!!

After two lovely nights sleep, I too had a bit of a rough night. I didn't get up and down that much but I had WEIRD dreams that kept me tossing and turning, so I don't feel as rested this morning as I have the last two mornings. I DID go out last night to see DH play with his band, and I DID have a couple of Cosmopolitans while there.... hmmmm... maybe too early for alcohol?? Don't know. It sure did feel nice to go out and see some friends and listen to good music!! I can see my life starting to return to normal again... yea!!

Today I will take it EASY..... watch football.... have DH cook a big pot of his wonderful chili for me!! I'm hoping for a little snow this afternoon.. that would make the day perfect!

As far as weight gain... I have lost maybe 2 -3 lbs. but that's it. I was really hoping to lose more since they took my uterus, cervix, ovaries, tubes, a BUNCH of fibroids, AND my appendix!! That HAS to be 5 lbs. in organs and tumors, wouldn't you think?!?!? darn it! Anyway, I'm anxious to start exercising so maybe I can lose a few lbs. I quit smoking on Dec. 1st, so I'm terrified that between the not smoking and the menopause I'm going to GAIN weight!! Can't do that!! No, no, no!!

Nurselynn, i'm on a 1 ml. pill of estradiol, so I don't know about the patch thing... but as far as how quick it works into your system, I can tell an difference within a few hours of taking my pill. I take one in the morning with breakfast, and DH swears he can tell by noon if I've taken it or not, just by my mood. Although, I was still having some night sweats a few days after I started taking the pill, and now I'm not so I DO think it takes awhile to totally get into your system.

I haven't been taking ANY vitamins!! DUH!! I guess between taking my estradiol, motrin, glucoasime, mucinex and chantix everyday, i just didn't want to take ANOTHER PILL!! ugh.... but I guess I should do that.

OH.. and Bethany, i wouldn't worry about having to take medicine long-term. If it gives you a better quality of life, then why not? I liken it to my mom, who's diabetic taking insulin everyday. She can't live without it.

Hope everyone has a good day....<fingers crossed>

OK - Morning Update

I decided to post an update this morning since I was having such a rough day yesterday.

Funny thing about the night sweats. Last night I could not sleep because I was soooo hot. I thought OMG this is horrible. 5am Rolled around and I could not take it..the only thing I had was Ultram left over from this past summer that I use for sciatica. I took one to help me sleep (because it is so unbelievably strong it knocks me out). As soon as I got back in the bed...DH rolls over and says he is burning up and gets out of the bed and closes the vent to the heater. Guess what....no night sweats and slept like a baby. LOL I guess it was not my hormones all along.

I think the low grade temp was from the pain I was feeling the other day. I only had it for about an hour and I really have not been taking too much of anything for pain. But I have noticed this morning a huge decrease in the bloating. I have noticed whenever I have a decrease in swelling and bloating.

I feel really great this morning but sciatica is killing me. I think I just need to get some exercise.

You gals are great. Thanks for hearing my complaints.

I hope you all have a great day and I hope mine continues and only gets better.

Appendix Question?????

I am asking this for myself and for lady4carousels because I saw her post.

How many had their appendix removed with their surgery?

Did you sign anything in regards to the specifics of your surgery?

The reason I am asking this is because I had a detailed conversation with my Gyno prior to surgery because of all of the complications I had prior to surgery (just like many of you). I knew he was taking my appendix for sure and everything else was a maybe but I verbally told him to take out anything that was necessay. I ended up being a mess in there; LOL. My mother had her hyster
many years ago and she said that some doctors feel that removing the appendix during a hyster is almost routine.
Maybe this should be something to remember to ask the DR afterwards just in case.

I notice if I overdue it my belly gets swollen and I bleed a little more than normal, I've been having problems staying asleep the whole night.

Am I an old fart or what?

First off, I'm 47 and no way am I an old fart...... I feel better and look better than most 30 year olds (IMHO lol). Anyway, we had surgery on the same day. Did you have a TAH? You mentioned bleeding? I've actually been released to go back to work already, and haven't had any bleeding since leaving the hospital back on the 19th of December. Have you had a post op visit with your doctor yet? I'm a bit concerned to hear you're having as much trouble as you are. I'm actually starting back to my aerobics classes in another week. I'm still taking off next week to finish up a bunch of stuff that I've not been able to do up until now (treating next week like I'm on vacation )

Hope you're feeling better today, Tina!

I had my appendix removed, and I DO remember signing a form before surgery allowing it. My dr. said it is pretty routine to do that now. My sister-in-law had a TAH in Aug. and she said hers was removed too.
