I've enjoyed reading thru this thread too. I see my surgeon on Jan 8th then I plan to return to teach on Jan 21st barring any complications. I teach k-5 art plus 2nd & 3rd grade gifted, but only 4 days a week. I've had a great sub too, but have already started having nightmares about returning to a classroom I no longer recognize. Art can get disorganized sooo quickly. I worry too about being able to work with clay (wedging & so forth) but have decided to browbeat my dh into helping as much as possible. LOL. After 3 1/2 weeks I still get really tired and achy, interesting to read all the posts & how so many things are similar yet so different.
Hope & good wishes as everyone continues on the path to recovery!

Well, tomorrow's my 1st day back w/the students.......I had inservice on Thurs. & Fri. They weren't so bad but obviously don't require the same energy level as being w/the students.

On the one hand, I feel ready for it (have felt MUCH stronger since Tues.), but on the other hand, I'm very scared of being tired. I came home and took a LOOONG nap Thurs. afternoon & went to bed early on Fri. So we'll just see how my energy holds out tomorrow. I've also had a little burning in my tummy when I'm active for very long.

I went back to school today for three hours to plan for my sub for Mon and Tue. and got absolutely exhausted. I also have lots of swelling. I am scheduled to go back to work on Wed. for 1/2 day. I go see the doc on Tue. He told me that I would be ready to go by two weeks. I'm not so sure he's correct. He acted like the type I was having was a walk in the park. I beg to disagree. I'm curious what he will say on Tue. I know that I am still so tired!

Bless your heart! I can't imagine that you will feel like going back Wednesday. Obviously your doc. has never had this surgery. You are probably still dealing with all the anesthesia leaving your body, hormones regulating etc. You still need some R and R. He may not realize how demanding physically and mentally teaching really is.

Back to Work

I went back to work today, 5 weeks after surgery. It was easier than I thought. I am tired and a little sore, but I'm always tired after the holidays. I tried to sit as much as possible, but it is just not my nature! I left as soon as the kids left, rather than staying for conference time and came right home. I am going to put my feet up and relax for the rest of the evening. I'm a little worried about how tired I will be by the end of the week. Did anyone else go back today?

Hi all, Third day back. I'm still having some trouble sleeping, I hope that resolves soon as I am tiiirrreeddd! I did feel a little better today than last week. I can only assume it will get better. That said, my stomach is HUGE! It almost feels as bloated as when I got out of surgery! I hope this stops soon. I am also going to sit back and relax tonight. I really did miss my kids. It's nice to see them all (almost all :-/ ) again. Hope everyone had a great, healing day!

I'll be interested to see how you do after 5 weeks. Let me know how tired you are at the end of the week. I'm not for sure when I'm going back, but I was thinking about 5 1/2 weeks post op.

Anyone who thinks teaching isn't work is CRAZY! It's much more demanding than anyone realizes. I can't imagine returning after only 2 weeks.
Good Luck!

I am 2 weeks 5 days. I went back today. I have an aide and 2 student workers for an hour. I managed but I thought I had lost my mind on the way there this morning. I am exhausted and sore.

I saw the dr at 2 and he said everything looked fine. Just gotta getthe muscles used to moving again.
