Can I go groceries shopping???

Greetings....

I am now in my 5th week of recovery, due to the lack of helpers, I have started to do some light house chores.

I am still pretty much concerned about leaving my house for some groceries shopping...... my hubby has been doing it though. I feel that this is quite stressful for him as he needs to work and still has to do the shopping.

I need some expertise advices on whether I can do the shopping now, is it safe or do I still need more rest before I could step out of the house.

Please help....... thanks !

Can I go groceries shopping???

I had to go shopping my 3rd day home... Tha was not fun I have 5 boys on the show had to go on. Im on my 5th week now and I still get alittle dizzy walking up and down those long isles but it tolerable. Give it a shot. If you dont feel comfortable, go home. Seiously! If you can take his time and truly restas much as possible than do it. Anything to make you better quicker,ya know. Like I tell eveyone, it really is about you right now and your no good if you make yourself worse. And dont feel guilty about it. This was a big surgery and it will take us all time to adjust. And this is coming from some one who thought I could take on the world. Sorry to say, I was wrong. Iwas even tupid enough to show up at a court hearing on the 4th day after surgery. Well, at least the judge knew I was serious about child support,LOL Anyways , yes its SAFE. Just listen to your body and go back home if you just dont feel right.

Can I go groceries shopping???

Something to think about... if you do the shopping... you'll have to lift the groceries from the cart to you car. Then would you have to carry them into the house? If you can have someone do the bagging for you (putting the bags into the cart), put the bags in your car for you, then carry the groceries if for you, that would be different.

Shopping itself is probably not a problem, it's the lifting and carrying that would be.

Can I go groceries shopping???

I'm wondering how safe it would be to push the cart around. I'm facing the same situation. So far, my hubby has been doing all the pushing of the carts and carrying everything, but yesterday I asked him to move a very large crock pot for me and he looked at me as if I was crazy. I don't think they realize how important it is for us not to puch, pull or lift things during this time of recovery. I printed off the post op week 3-4 rules from the Hystersister website and gave it to him to read and to remind him just what I can and can't do.
Take care and be very careful!

Maybe you could ask the cashier/bagger to bag less than 10 pounds. I think light shopping would be okay. And, they have the electric carts - I used that the other day at Walmart. It has a small basket, and I made sure my items were light enough for me to carry. It was really fun, but my DH laughed hysterically at me.

Good Luck.

i'd check with your dr but i'm sure grocery shopping is fine. just ask them to make the bags light. maybe instead of doing major shopping, you can go each day and get a few things.

You could probably go, but you shouldn't lift anything heavy. I did about that time and regretted it.

Can I go groceries shopping???

HI there,

I Have had several abdominal surgeries and after all of them, waited two weeks for grocery shopping and then was fine. I just had my dh help bring them in and unload.

Can I go groceries shopping???

I went when I was about 4 wks p/o and what I did was have them bag everything that went into the fridge in seperate bags and when I got home I brought in just the bags that went into the fridge and my dh brought the rest when he came home from work and put everything away.
I will tell you I got very, very tired and dizzy so it took me longer to shop.

If you've not done a lot of walking like you would in the grocery store, I would second the motorized wheelchair. I'm 5 weeks, and I have a hard time staying up on my feet for prolonged amounts of time. So trips to town are hard and wipe me out. I use the wheelchair and don't push the cart - they get heavier than you think! You can also ask the cashier to have someone load your groceries for you at the store. Unload only the have too's at home and leave the rest for hubby. Be careful not to overdo!

Merry Christmas!
