Can I go groceries shopping???

I'm 18 days post op and have been shopping numerous times. On Thursday I went downtown and walked about 10-12 blocks, plus going into several stores . I didn't feel bad, but I had NO energy or motivation for the next 48 hours.

Yesterday I went to Costco....when I got to the 40 pound box of kitty litter, I just slid it off the shelf and onto something else in the cart. When I got out to the parking lot, I asked a stranger to lift it into the truck. He was more than happy to, in exchange for allowing him to take my cart! (I'll pay that one forward some day!)

At the grocery store, they were more than accomodating in loading the bags lightly, and they put them in my truck. And if you find something heavy, like a case of drinks, just ask someone to put it in your cart. People are very nice, and at this time of year, just brimming over with good will.

Have a Merry Christmas and ask for HELP! People LOVE to feel needed!

Can I go groceries shopping???

I ventured out to the market about 6 days post-op with a "helper" and have been grocery shopping on my own since then. The oddest thing for me was that everything seemed confusing the first time (probably because of the meds). Both times I found it to be a tiring experience but I was happy that I did it. Loading the groceries into the car wasn't a problem but if I had had to carry them into the house I would have really been worn out (2 weeks post-op).

Can I go groceries shopping???

I was lucky enough to have my DD home to carry the groceries into the house for me and help take care of them....

My advice for you would be along with not lifting or trying to carry heavy bags would be to be careful pushing and turning the cart after it gets full....I didn't think it was a big deal but paid for it for a few days...

Can I go groceries shopping???

Everyone is right here. Shop light. USE THE BAGGERS. And just pay attention to your body. We all get some dizzy spells and thats a signal. So listen to it.Pushing carts actually helped me even if I am only going to get a gallon of milk. Kinda like using a walker , and at times I wish I had one You'll do good!
