Yeast infection not going away?

Hey everyone. I had my LAVH on 11/5. At 5 weeks postop, I developed a belly button incision infection, and the dr put me on keflex 4 times a day for 7 days. Well, of course, Thursday I thought I was getting a yeast infection, and by Friday night, I knew FOR SURE that I did. I've only had one of yeast infection in my life, and I've gotta to you: it's TERRIBLE. I called the on call number and a resident called back. I asked her about Diflucan, and she said that if the infection seems to be kinda bad, then Diflucan probably wouldn't take care of it, so she recommended that I take Monistat. So I just finished up my last treatment of Monistat 3 lastnight. I don't see the gross discharge like I had before, but the burning & itching is still pretty bad and the Monistat only increases the burning & itching INTENSELY. Here's my question: How soon will my symptoms go away??? If my last treatment was lastnight, how long should I give it until I call the dr for something else? It's so aggravating, b/c yesterday was 6 weeks post op, and I've not been with DH in over 9 weeks (b/c of preop problems). We were really looking forward to lastnight, and now this! Thanks for any advice!!!

Yeast infection not going away?

Yikes! I'd call and ask the doctor about taking a longer-term oral treatment, maybe like Nizoral. I'm surprised that they thought an over the counter solution was better than something prescription-strength.

Yeast infection not going away?

eeeeeeewwwwweeeeeee -- wool underwear in the summer -- I hate yeast infections.

It sometimes takes a couple days for the monistat to work --
there is a monistat that has the external and internal cream -- i would suggest that --
when ever I get yeast infectins-- it normally takes 2 sets of monistat to get it under control

best of luck to you

Yeast infection not going away?

UGH! I hate those things. I am also surprised that they said over the counter was better than the Diflucan. I got yeast infections every month when I was losing a lot of weight, and the pill only worked.

I have thrush right now, got three days of Diflucan and still have it a little plus doc told me yesterday I have a yeast infection in my belly button where one of the lap insicions is. I would call the doc and ask for the pill!

Sorry!

Yeast infection not going away?

Lisa, the Monistat that I've been taking does include a small tube of the external itch relief cream. Only problem is, I cannot use it. It sets me on fire! It makes the burning and itching completely unbearable (So much for "itch RELIEF cream! haha) Thanks for the suggestion though!

Yeast infection not going away?

you might have a bacterial infection also if you are burning that bad still. i had the same problem. i ended up on diflucan for 6 months and metrogel quite a few times until it was finally taken care of. if the burning continues you might want to call your dr and ask for diflucan..it works so much better than monostat. i hope you feel better soon.

Yeast infection not going away?

I had my surgery on 11-28, and i've had a yeast infection for almost 2 weeks now. I've been difucan 4 times now, and not much relief. I'm going to get monostat tomorrow, I hope that works,,,,,,it's driving me nuts!

You can get liquid acidophilus. I got a brand called Bio-K at Whole Foods. One 3oz bottle is the same as 100 servings of yogurt.

I hope it works because I took a diflucan yesterday and I am on fire! My dermo gave me a hydro cream with a antifungal in it. It is soothing but I am still suffering.

Yeast infection not going away?

It sounds a lot like a bacterial infection, I had the exact problem before, not surgery related, but any kind of yeast infection meds made the symptoms worse... Then low and behold the doc said it was "VAGINOSIS" - a vaginal bacterial infeciton. Don't continue to suffer, demand to see a different doc in the practice!

Good Luck :-)
