Concerns that you had @ your 2 week post-op (update)

Today was my 2 week post op visit to my doctor. I was armed with a long list of questions thanks to all my sisters here on the board. My doctor actually said she was glad I came with a list because so many people just rely on their memory and are sure to forget some important question that wanted to ask. So I got all my questions answered, although not the answers I necessarily wanted to hear!! Oh yes, I also had a pelvic exam because of the discharge with slight odor I mentioned to her. It wasn't painful, but just not comfortable. Turns out, I do have a very slight vaginal infection near the cuff stitch line. It is the cause of the discharge and odor. She said NO ODOR is normal......the discharge should be light in color with no odor. Otherwise, an antibiotic is called for~ in my case anyway.

I was told NO tub baths, hot tubs, intercourse until the six week check up. Also, she suggested I wait until next week @ Christmas or a little after to begin driving again. She's concerned about my activity level since I do have an infection. As far as my return to work~ she suggested I go back in the 5th week rather than the 4th week. I'm a teacher and the expectation is that I will return to work with everyone else on January 2nd. The doctor said the absolute earliest she will clear me to go back is January 7th and that is contingent on no further complications or new symptoms.

Sounds like your activity level and clearance is much like mine. I'm cleared to drive, but I'm not comfortable doing so until after Christmas because of the way folks drive this time of year.

Just had a big fuss with my boss today about my return to work - what a nightmare - but my doctor isn't even willing to entertain releasing me yet, and will only consider on 1/2/08 if my spotting has stopped.

Glad you had a good, informational visit, though!

Sleeping

Hi Daria,

I used to work in sleep research. Several things could be affecting the sleep:

(1) Overall stress of this whole ordeal
(2) Pain at night
(3) Side effects from anesthesia (can last awhile)
(4) Side effects from meds that you are temporarily taking.

Usually, if you have general anesthesia, you have more sleep distrubance. I had a spinal, and I'm out like a light.
