ouch
I had my surgery 12/10. Feeling ok. I have a question...BM's still hurt a lot. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know why it hurts? I still get worn out. I rode in a car for 3 hours Cristmas day and 5 hours 12/26. Ugh! I never thought just sitting could be so uncomfortable. Does anyone know aproximately how many stiches a TAH/BSO take? Everyone take care-and have a recovering holiday!

Hi Star! I think our bowels are just slow and also trying to recover from our surgeries, the anesthesia, and also any meds taken, the pain pills or any other meds taken, can all slow and constipate us too! I am still taking the Colace twice a day, and have no real problems in this area, luckily, and I have been completely off any type of meds all week! Other than my RX of Estradiol, and the Colace. My appetite is not what it used to be either, it is pretty poor, so this too can slow and constipate too. Movement, or lack of walking and movement, can slow the bowels too. Drink lots of water, eat fiber, prunes, fruits and veggies, the salads, whole grain/bran cereals, and take the Colace twice a day still, and walks!
Hope this helps, I am hopeful we will all feel 100% by the 6 week mark, in all bodily areas!
~Much love, Brooke

bowel movements ~ ouch
I'm three weeks post op tomorrow and this week all of a sudden my bowels seem to have started working again. The first two weeks I only went once each week and now this week it's been once or twice a day! They do seem a little more painful than is normal but I figured that was just because everything is finally getting back on track. I know I have also been a lot more active this week so I think that helps get everything moving, too. I think it's pretty normal.

I'm at the two week mark and have not had pain, but have felt that everything is very sluggish. I have been taking a softener and that has helped me to go every day but it still doesn't feel right. My doctor didn't seem concerned as long as I was going. Good to hear that I'm not alone. I guess I just have to be patient. I had a radical and had to have a catheter for 12 days so I'm sure that didn't help. I keep forgetting that this was major surgery and all the organs left are probably pretty traumatized still.

Hi All,
I'm 3 weeks post op, and I stopped the narcotics a couple of days ago (I was only taking them at night).
I'm not very constipated anymore, but I am uncomfortable for a couple of hours before I actually have a BM. I've gotten naseous a time or two as well. The first time that happened I got really scared, but it was just my body turning back on again after I got home from the hospital. It has gotten better in the last week.
I don't need a stool softener anymore, they aren't hard, but they sure are slow in leaving. I feel like I have to go for up to half a day before I actually HAVE to go. I'll ask the doc about it if it doesn't go away in the next couple of weeks.
