Post-Hysto troubles (it started with sex...)

Janelle - Thank you!! I really began feeling like a freak. (Easy to think when all of the nurses come into your room saying "well I have never heard of such a thing. How big was he?!?" LOL) I am so sorry for the pain you went through because I do know how unbelievable it is. Like nothing you've ever felt before, huh? It is such an immense from-your-core feeling. Has your doctor put you on any estrogen cream to help your vaginal tissue heal? I'm curious, because mine did and I hope that it helps! As for my 6 month ban - so far I have no problem with it! I was soooo sure lightening couldn't strike twice - and it did. I'm darn near petrified now!

As for everyone else - thank you so much for your very kind words and thoughts. My story is far from the worst - but definitely bad enough to not want anyone else to go through it. The sex is NOT worth it!!!! Patience women!! I keep thinking if I had waited just a couple of more weeks.. I could have been having sex regularly since mid-November instead of waiting for the beginning of July to roll around. (And if there are any antsy partners out there - you can tell them that same thing: wait a few weeks now or a few MONTHS later.) There are so many other things you can do. Just listen to your body, and take it easy. There really are reasons the doctors put limits on us.

I can't believe what you went through, but glad to hear to made it through. I have been feeling a bit frustrted with my doctor's orders of waiting 3 months for sex, but hearing your story I know I can wait another 3 weeks!
To those recently out of the op, I am now 10 weeks and I feel great!
Best wishes to you, and happy new year!

Before surgery sex was not comfortable due to the enlarged uterus...so it had been a couple weeks already. Now it's been almost two weeks since the hyst. and I miss being that close to my husband. After reading your story I'm positive I'll be able to wait at least 5 to 6 more weeks and even then be aprehensive. Earlier this year I had our youngest and waited 8 weeks then so it's a good thing my husband is so understanding. After 17 years together he knows what's really important.

TamaraJo
If you had LAVH you definitely have a vaginal cuff; this is where the surgeon repairs the top of the vagina where the cervix used to be. Don't worry, we tend to hear the horror stories here as people need a place to voice and receive our support. Most of us, fortunately, make it through without complications (yet we still need the support that this site provides). Best wishes to you in the healing process; it sounds like your man was worth the 5-year wait!

TamaraJo,
I understand your frustration in having to wait. It sounds like you have a sweetheart of a guy going through all of this with you. PLEASE don't let me scare you out of sex!! I couldn't deal with the guilt. Just take things slow and easy. If things cause too much pain at first... try again later. After all - what could be more fun to practice? (Practice makes perfect ya know!!!)

Sally L is right - not many people come here bragging about no complications (although some do - and I thank them for that!!!!) I think it is MUCH more common for sex to be OK than for what I went through.

He is a sweetie.... I showed him the site and we talked about things and we've decided to wait a few more weeks even though my doc said it was okay.I get the vaginal cuff thing now, thank you. My recovery was going excellent until I fell in my 4th week.... I fell hard and had alot of pain and such but I got checked-out at the E.R. and at the docs and besides the pain issue I was fine.BUT.......... At my 6wk check-up doc said I still had "alittle" bit of stitch left [vaginal cuff, right?] but it would be fine to try sex.We have decided to wiat anyways,SHEW!!!!!!!! Better safe than sorry, right..

Tamara, I am glad you have such an understanding man. It really is when you are emotionally ready as well. If you are too scared you won't be able to enjoy it. Our cases are extreme and most women have no problems at all.

OMG - you have been through a terrible ordeal. I hope all turns out well. I am scared to death of this Vaginal Cuff thing. And as far as sex goes... Im scared to death to do it again. Its a good thing I dont have a man in my life to have to worry about the sex thing. The problem I worry about is how do you know if everything is healing right until you go to you 4 week check up? Thats what im worried about. The body goes through so many changes, different pains, odd vaginal discharges..how do you know what is normal or because of a complications?

we could be twins

the almost exact same thing happened to me. I was cleared for take off at 6 weeks post op. Tried to have sex at 7, but it was too painful - looking back, the exam was too. I probably had some infection then. At 11 weeks, I had sex again and it tore me open. I had to have a repair surgery and they found a small bit of infection inside. Everything was find and again at 6 weeks post op, I was ok for it again. at 11 week - tried to have sex, it was ok at first, no pain at all. as things progressed and it got more agressive, i started bleeding and ended up in the er again for another surgery to repair it. I am also on 6 months probation and am scared to even think about having sex again. this has been a nightmare for me and I also wasn't on estrogen until a couple weeks prior to the second tear. I had an exam 3 weeks post op and again it looks like it is healing on the outside. I am on a high protein diet and am continuing the estrogen. I just want to feel normal again. I cry about this at the worst times and cant seem to get over it.
