Almost three weeks post op and still feel horrible

Tuesday will be three weeks since my surgery and I still feel a lot of pain and discomfort. I still take pain meds a few times a day, and I want to make sure that is normal. I mean, it is better than it was the first week, but I am still very weak and very sore. Also, my husband wants to do some sexual things, not intercourse, but I am just not up to it. Sorry to be so graphic, but is that even ok to do? I feel so bad and sex is the last thing on my mind and the first thing on his. Am I overreacting, or is it normal to feel pretty bad still?

Honey, you had major surgery less than 3 weeks ago! Everyone heals different, but I find it very normal to still feel weak and sore after this little bit of time. I think my weakness is what really surprised me the most.

As for your hubby... do not push yourself. Again - you had major surgery less than 3 weeks ago! I know that most men can have sex even while they're suffering from the worst case of flu on top of food poisoning, head cold and an aggravated hernia - but I think us women aren't built that way. We need to feel an all-around sense of wellness before wanting to hit the sheets. Or at least we need to feel like our insides haven't been ripped out recently.

Hugs to you right now. Breathe easy. You are perfectly normal.

everyone heals at different rates and you are completely normal. stay on top of the pain with the meds, dont let yourself get into too much pain before you take them. try to add some motrin for swelling and pain. and as for your husband...tell him to take care of himself

I would have to say that for me the three week mark was probably my most confusing and difficult time. I felt like I should not be needing pain meds but I did. I cried nonstop. And I truly wondered if I was going to get better. This was also about the time that I knew my husband was getting antsy. He never said anything but I knew..... Anyway, I am feeling much better, occasionally need some help with pain, and I have stopped crying. As for my husband, I was able to make him feel less antsy. That's all I'll say....We are now released for hankypanky and it's great. Do NOT have intercourse until you are ok'd. You WILL make it through this rough time!

I was feeling a lot like you at week 3. I'm now at week 4 and am better, but still in pain and tired. My DH's motivation for waiting is that if we start too soon, complications could follow, which will cause yet another delay for sex. He understands that and is happy to wait it out. Well, not happy, but willing. He wants me to heal correctly the first time.

Dear Bankbabe; I had my surgery same day as you and if it is any help...I still feel weak. I'm off pain meds but do not have the stamina I had before and I definitely do not feel like sex, if that helps too.

However, I am still spotting--not sure if this is normal? It isn't bright red, just pink and more towards the end of day. I don't feel I am over doing it either--taking two 30 min walks a day and moving around a bit- laying down for an hour at best--but with this I have inner soreness--it's hard to explain.

I too thought I would be totally healed--actually I thought I would feel like normal about a week ago, but I don't. I hope this helps and that we both feel normal soon!
