Spotting/Bleeding over 1 yr after Hysterectomy

Granted it took me 8 weeks to quit bleeding after the TH (left ovaries age 37) Nov. 2006 and things looked pretty good until each month I've spotted which would stop after maybe two days and I have also had some bright red bleeding back in August and just finished spotting and bleeding after 8 days during Christmas. Keep in mind I called my Dr.'s office the months I was spotting and they told me if it did not quit in a few days to come in, and it did quit until this month December. I visited my Dr who examined and used the lovely silver nitrate to try and stop the bleeding. BTW it did stop after 5 days after application. I have also noticed lower back pain the last 5 months. He then asked me if I had ever been diagonised with Endometriosis. Well there was some discussion after a biopsy years ago I had a mild case. He preceeds to tell me I could have something very rare and is sending me to a specialist, but I can't get in to see him until February. I am trying not to freak out. I have had a history of abnormal bleeding for many years which lead up to the TH. Has anyone had any of these symptoms? Thanks for any information you could provide.

Spotting/Bleeding over 1 yr after Hysterectomy

I have an appointment to see my Dr some time this next week for something similar. I was diagnosed with Endo and my story goes something like this.

The endo was so bad that I had orthoscopy in which my Dr lasered my insides including my uterus and parts of my bladder. I then went on the drug "loopron", phonetic spelling bear with me, which drops your estrogen levels to near nothing for 6 months in hopes of killing the endo off more fully. This was mixed blessing time. One I am off my very painful period, but two I feel like crap most of the time. From level 10 pain for a few days to dull level 3 icky for 6 months.

Anyway it did not really work for me, I was free from period pain for about 3 months before it struck hard, lvl 10+. I scheduled the hyster. a few months later.

I chose to leave one ovary but everything else was removed. Now ~2 year later I get occasional period feelings, but otherwise I am doing well; until just recently that is.

I just started some heavy exercise, and my sex life has picked up a little, but I find that I am bleeding\spotting after I have sex. Today I started a full menstral flow without having had sex in the last two days. So much that I had to go and get pads from the store; talk about wierd feeling.

Anyway, I am curious about what they tell you Sandals, and I am cursious about the silver nitrate? Sounds a little concerning. What did they find when the went to take a peek? No offence, but the whole thing does not make a lot of sense to me. Is it something like a tear in the skin, or in our case could it be endo that is again in the wrong place?

Oh BTW, I had a total hysterectomy through, LAVH (just looked that up.) so I should not have a cervix; leaving just the one ovary.

Keep me informed,

Candelin

Spotting/Bleeding over 1 yr after Hysterectomy

I did some more research on the site. This was helpful to me as I was not aware of the granularity problem, and in my case I am wondering if this is reasonable?

With a full hyster., with no cervix, after ~2 years can this suddenly occur? Admittedly I am doing more, much more active, and the sex life has picked up as well.

Anyway, the article may have some information for you, worth a read anyway.

Good luck,

Candelin

Spotting/Bleeding over 1 yr after Hysterectomy

Candelin, Thank you for sharing your story with me. I also had the LAVH and they left my ovaries. The Dr did mention granulated tissue prior to the exam and then after the examination and applying the silver nitrate(cartarized-tried to stop the bleeding) he then went on to mention a lesion of endo possibly being aroud the cuff. After that he told me he had no problem referring me to a specialist. So I really don't know what to think or expect especially since I don't see him until sometime in February. The spotting has stopped for now. I'm curious to see how long it takes before or if it starts up again (trying to be positive). I too sometimes have the period crampings, but as far as a lot of pain it is not really bad, however I feel bloated and have the lower back pain. I also have had some bleeding after sex which wiggs me out a little. Where is this coming from a year later???? Please let me know how things go with you as well. Take care and I will keep you in my prayers.

Spotting/Bleeding over 1 yr after Hysterectomy

does the bleeding/spotting ever end? I've had some, though i'm not as far along, as you. I thought about calling my doc today, but decided not to. My spotting is hard to see, actually. The pads are so absorbent that it's hard to see. So, I went padless a couple of days ago and it was much easier to tell that I had something.

lovetowalk I wish and hope to tell you that the bleeding does end. All I know is ever since the LAVH I have spotted and bled which will eventually end and then start up again. I will keep you posted. Thanks

lovetowalk,

From what I have read here, I think you should see someone. I have also asked around a little from my aunts and mom, who have all had hyster.. They all commented that they knew of no one who had had bleeding after a full hyster..

In your case with the history you have I would advise checking it out. Not to scare you in any way, but it is almost almost always better to be sure then to be sorry later.

You are just a few months after the Hyster., but it is still worth just mkaing sure; if nothing else for comforts sake and piece of mind.

Sandels,

We have very similar cases it sounds, I was very curious about the endo in your case. Since I have not been to the doctor, I have not been checked for endo or granularity. The endo was a real problem for me, I had it everywhere inside, but I didn't think about the endo being able to spread after the hyster.. This does not make much sense to me. Do you think that it would have to be in that location, beyond the cuff zone i mean (keeping it PG13 (down in that area I mean)), pre-hyster? Now that makes sense, but it has been 2 years!?!

Perhaps over the two years it was slowly growing, but I just don't exactly understand how this thing works.

Anyway I will be going to the doctor tomorrow, I will keep you informed.

Ladies
Thank you for writing and sharing your information. I had my LAVH in August and was spotting for quite awhile, my Dr. did do the Silver Nitrate not too long after my Hyster as he said I had a spot that was not healing.

I have been spotting on and off, sometimes I'm not sure, and think this can't be. But sure enough it is red now, so tomorrow I'm going to call the Dr. and go see what is going on. I bet it is the same spot that has not healed. I'll ask him if I can look forward to this for the next couple of years? My goodness I really didn't think I would ever see red on tissue again, what a shocker. Have a wonderful evening.
