3 days out

I had my hysterectomy on Wednesday. I was only planning on removing the uterus but when my dr went in, he had to take the left ovary too due to endometriosis. Im sore, nauseated and very tired. I cant sleep though. Im voiding well, though Im not looking forward to having to #2! My IV line left my hand and arm bruised swollen and sore. I missed my dogs a lot while I was in the hospital and was very glad to see them yesterday when I got home. I am scared to death that they will jump on my incisions though! I was sent home with an antibiotic, sleeping pills and three different pain meds. I am still figuring out which ones work the best. I feel helpless and useless. I was told not to lift anything. I cant drive. Anyway, that is how it is for now. Hope you are all well and recovering nicely.

I woke up feeling much better this morning from having surgery on Wed. I managed to take some advil instead of my pain medication. I was okay until dh had to tell a Baaaaaad joke that made me laugh. ::sigh::

My oldest is still with my mom and dh is going to get her today. she was sick all night with the stomach flu and she's feeling better, so hopefully I'll be able to avoid getting sick, but she wants to come home.

I still have not poo'd so I took a stool softener this morning. How miserable!! I guess I'll sit around and wait for that to work today. What a life. :P~

Otherwise I'm doing alright and feeling okay. One of my lapro incisions glue came off with the bandaid, so I re-bandaided that and I'll watch it. my other two looks fine. I'm still quite bruised from lots of pokes with the IV and my veins collapsing after losing too much blood. One of my elbows feels out of joint. blah.

My LAVH was Dec 31 (kept ovaries) - went in at 7 am and to surgery at 9 am and out of surgery about 2 hours later - doc said the fibroid filled my uterus and I had endo - uterus was mushy instead of firm. Will get biopsy results at post-op appt on Monday. My only complications were a severe rash where they shaved over stretch marks with very sensitive skin and I must have rubbed my eye in recovery and scratched it so got to see an eye doc in the castle as well. Very loopy from the drugs the day of surgery - they took the cath out about 5 am the next day and I was able to get up and about. Came home about 1 pm.

Feeling really good - pain meds only at night and I think I can stop those today. Have done some light housework from the 2nd day home - dishwasher and a couple of loads of laundry but no heavy lifting or vacuuming. I do get a little tired but I think it is partially boredom as well. Took a short drive last night (wanted to see if I could and hubby was with me) and did fine (wasn't supposed to drive till Monday) - I am so BORED! I have done some work from home so I won't be too far behind. Going in next week for a couple of meetings and back to my reg schedule on Jan 14.

So glad the uttie and fibroids are gone! Watching daytime TV (which is terrible!) I have seen the "feminine hygiene" commericals I just laugh!!!!

A and a to all that offered pre-op and post-op support and especially to my fellow Dec 31 sisters!

Hi, I'm came home last night (Jan 4th) after having a LAVH on the 3rd (kept the ovaries). I am able to walk and get around, go to the bathroom, get my own water, and read a lot! Some pain but ibuprofen seems to take care of it during the day. At night I took the percocet the doctor prescribed. Woke up and had to walk around a bit at night before going back to sleep. The surgery was difficult the doctor said because while they thought I just had fibroids, a polyp and a slightly enlarged uterus, it turns out I may have had adenomysis. Off to look that one up to see exactly what it means.

Thanks for all the support and help.

Kellylamie-
Thanks for the update. You and I see to be on the same journey together. What are you doing for pain? I have ben pretty pain free, and just sticking to Motrin every few hours if needed. I am hesitant to take anyting stronger because of the constipation factor-I do not need more of that. I did have my first bm this morning!! Who would hae thought I would celbrate that......I am glad to here you are doing well.

Queen-

I had my total hysterectomy on the 2nd, and I scratched my eye too!! I had to have a patch over my eye in the hospital. You might try that if you are still having a problem. It helped me and I am as good as new! It makes me wonder what else we do when we are under the influence of anesthesia...not sure I want to know!!

Oh honey! Thats sounds awful. I was just celebrating not being constipated anymore. Hope it gets better.

As for me I felt like I had been hit by a train this morning when I woke up. I had a migraine again and was hurting all over. Since the surgery I have had migraines almost everyday but I will take that over the bleeding so heavily it would run down my legs if I wasn't careful. Further into the day I have been feeling much better. I have had some gas pains today and after the talk with my Dr yesterday I guess I am expected to have more gas pains because he was a little vigorus in "flushing the cavity" when he did my surgery and he said that it could cause more gas. My incision has not been bleeding at all today so thats good. My DH has been refering to it as the gash in my belly lol he is so weird, he said the word incison creeps him out. I can tell that my tummy is recovering, I am starting to get feeling in parts that were numb. I hope everyone else is doing well!

TAH due to severe bleeding leading to anemia kept tubes and ovaries
