Hernia after Hysterectomy on Jan. 3

Hi girls,

Well, I've been doing wonderful, except still feeling pain when urinating, up until today, Jan. 19. Now I'm very concerned. I sorted wash started a load, no big deal. Started coughing a bit. When I went to sit down on hard service it was internally a bit painful. Started feeling a bit nautious and felt my lower abdomen only to realize that my flat belly now had a long protruding lump. My husband called doc. Said if I start throwing up to go to ER and I have to stop coughing! He thinks its a hernia. He wants to see me on Monday. He told my husband to have me try to push it back in and I haven't been able to.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I would so appreciate hearing about your experience. I'm so bummed. In my research it looks like it might mean another surgery and no way am I prepared for that. I feel so bad to have to rely on others for help. My sis is coming back out today to help me with house and wash. We had 2 weeks of meals brought to us, so lovingly, by our friends and my husband is on overload. ( We have to young girls, a business and another one that is just getting funded)

Thank you for all of your support.

Fondly

So Tired!

Greetings all,
First- I'm so glad to have finally found the 'post-op' discussions!
Had my post-op doc appt & have been cleared to drive. Anyone else feel concerned about doing so even after the OK to do so? Tummy is still feeling quite tender.
Anyway, took my first outing today to spend a couple hours sitting w/my 95 year old Grandma in the hospital... got home & PHEW!!! had such an achey tummy & slept for 4 hours. Sound normal to you, Sisters?
Many blessings to you all,
Pati

Hi Ladies!
Sister: please be careful!
My Dr said bending to do laundry or anything was a definate no-no, because of the constant bending and having to strain my abd to get back up, it didn't really have to do with weight or anything, it was just my abd was having to pull my weight back up and just your own body weight is enough to cause trouble, after abdominal surgery.

PAV: I've only driven once after my two week restriction was up. It made me tired and I really haven't wanted to leave the house since. My tummy was and still is still very tender, and I'm a real homebody also. I've always heard that sitting around is the most tiring thing you can do, now I believe it! I don't know how I'll regain my strength, after all this sitting around. Sitting with a family member in the hosp. is always hard without the surgery, God Bless You for spending time with your Grandmother, you will not regret it. I still miss mine a lot and she's been gone for several years. I'll be lucky if I'm half as good a Grandma as she was.

God Bless Everyone!

Hey Della Sue!

Guess what?!??? My DH still has yet to vacuum up the carpet fresh two days later! And it's driving me absolutely crazy!!!! And the laundry that he is doing, is all over my living room & on everyone's dressers. I told my DH that I did not understand how he could fold it & walk it as far as the bedrooms & not put it where it's supposed to go. All he said was I'm not done yet, I'll get it. The clothes along with the carpet fresh is sending me over the edge. Every once in a while I put the kids stuff where it's supposed to be, but I'm determined I'm not going to do anymore than that, considering I'm technically not supposed to do anything. Also, last night my DH promised the babies that he would take them to Build A Bear today, imagine that!! Another excuse not to do anything around the house again! And the funny thing about that is, we have no Build A Bear in Wilmington, NC, the closest one is in Myrtle Beach, SC (1-1 1/2 hrs away). At any rate, no complaints from me, because this gave me an excuse to get out of the house, even though it was a rainy, yucky day. I just made sure I had my tylenol & darvocet with me, considering I had a headache that I still can't seem to shake along with back pain.
Hope all is well with everyone & their families.
Love to all! Karen

Sounds like we are all starting to get back on our feet a bit. I however might have done too much and will take it wasy tomorrow. I went to breakfst to meet WLs friends. My mom's bday is todya and though I did not lift everythign I was on my feet. Rested a bit, we went to a movie butn all came home, dh threw together dinner and we watched antoher movie. It was a nice day, but of course nothing got done to the house, laundry, dishes. Oh well maybe tomorrow.

Sister, just be very careful until you find out for sure if it is a hernia or not.

Pav., I am driving here and there now. I tense up more watching others drive than jsut doing it myself. LOL!

Karen, I can't believe the carpet fresh is still there. LOL! That stuff gives me a headache so I would nto chance putting it down cuase I know it would still be there.

Glenda, sounds like you had a blast with your grandaughter!

Have a good rest of the weekend. I am taking my tired sore body to bed adn plan to stay there much of tomorrow.

Good Night!

Hi Everyone!
I'm feeling pretty good - for sure did too much last week and had a very sore tummy till yesterday. I learned not to push the cart at Target :-) My incision looks pretty healed except right in the middle where the steri strip fell off that 1" section looks better but not completely closed (always something to worry about). I was told to take the steri strips off soon and haven't yet. Anybody else told to take them off? I'm suppose to soak them in the shower and then try. I've been afraid to get my tummy too wet because of the not healed section. Well, I hope everyone is doing well with their recoveries!

My DH is just as hopeless but it is partially my fault. I tend to do more than I should, earlier than I should so he takes it for granted. The other day I mentioned (AGAIN) that the rugs upstairs need vacuumed (our vacuum is in the closet in the basement) and he just nodded. So I said "Are you going to do it or should I drag it up the stairs myself?" and his reponses was "I'll carry it up the stairs for YOU!" Guess if the rugs are going to be vacuumed it will be me!

Julie,
Please don't do the vacuuming! If pushing a cart hurt I can't imagine how much vacuuming will hurt. Ask him again or live with I guess. I know it's hard not to over do especially as we start to feel better but you don't want to set back your recovery.

Karen, that is funny the Carpet Fresh is still on the carpet - how do men ignore that kind of stuff?

Donna, I hope you recover from your busy day!

Take Care,
Teresa
