Extreme tiredness, and swelly belly at nearly 4 months post TAH!

Hi,
I am just feeling utterly rubbish after Christmas!

I guess I thought I would be fine by now coming up to nearly 4 months post op, and I seem to be doing ok on the estrogel. I haven`t had a post op with my gyne yet that is (eventually on the 17th Jan- post op care is rubbish in UK, don`t know what I`d have done without hystersisters!).

Anyway, I just feel exhausted all the time, I really have to push myself for the children`s sake when all I want to do is curl up and sleep! I have also put a lot of weight on (swelly belly seems even bigger!!) and suffer from muscle weakness and joint pain, as well as being extremely forgetful (and I`m only 31!). My abdo still also gets a little sore if I do too much.

When is it all going to end? I thought I`d be back to normal by now - help, do any of you feel like this? I feel as though I have no one to talk to as my family have left me to get on with it since 6 weeks post op, as they think I should have been all better by then.

Sorry for this long post! Happy new year
Haf xx

As far as the swelly belly/weight gain goes, I'm just a week shy of 4 months since my TAH and have that same issue. I have tiredness too, but the muscle pain and other things you mentioned are not a problem. I know you have to wait until a while for your post-op check. I would recommend that until then you keep a good record of your symptoms. Are they worse at one time of day than another, or after you exert yourself? Do they seem to occur at the same time or separately? When you finally do get to see your doctor that may help him/her determine what's going on with you.

Hi--This exact same thing happened to me at my 4 month mark--TAVH in July at the 4 month mark--I started feeling exhausted--achy joints, could not sleep well at night--my Dr did bloodwork and found that my 1 ovary he left was not producing hardly any estrogen and he had to start me on a low amount of estrogen supplements--it took a while, but I am starting to feel the difference--you really should have your levels checked. Good Luck

Hi! I am at my 5 month mark from a TAH/BSO. I was switched from Estridiol to the Viville Dot about 5 weeks ago. It seems to be helping better, but I'm not back to normal yet. I still can't believe how "swollen" my belly is! I can't sleep and am very weepy at times. I also have a lot of headaches and have aches and soreness in my joints also. I have also developed anxiety attacks. Anyone else have the anxiety attacks? Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Haf,

I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly.

The symptoms you describe sound a lot like menopause. At my last gyn appt, at 7 weeks post op, I was feeling EXHAUSTED. My doctor told me to remember that my body had been through a lot and is still healing. She also prescribed HRT. I noticed an improvement in my energy and fatigue levels almost immediately.

I also think I was starting to get a bit depressed. Sitting in the house day after day, not doing much but eating - began taking it's toll. I FORCED myself to start doing more, as difficult as it was. This made me feel a lot better (and I stopped gaining so much weight - which I think was due more to inactivity than anything else). Don't know what your personal situation is, but if you're not doing much except sitting about the house all day, you might be a bit depressed.

I agree that you should keep a journal of your symptoms to bring to your dr visit.

Hang in there! It will get better!

Hey all, I am almost 8 months and let me tell you, you will be tired for a while. I started to really feel a big difference in my energy at about 6 months. That is when I did not want to go right to the couch and lay down first thing when I got home from work. I had quite a long vertical incision so I had some real belly recovery to do and I think that might have had something to do with it.

I think every week I said what you said. " I should be all better now, what is wrong with me?" but it does take time. Give youself at least 6 months to get your strength and your stamina back.

Hi, Thanks all for your replies.

I think that some of the symptoms are that of the surgical menopause, even though I use estrogel ( but maybe the dose isn`t right). The other pain comes after I have been busy rushing about the place ( there is also a large hard swelling there that has been there since at least 4 weeks post op).

Looking forward to seeing gyne on 17th Jan to sort it out hopefully.

Hope you all feel better soon.
