I am so glad you were able to talk to him! Sometimes I think it is hard for us as caretakers to really communicate our needs! I am so used to doing everything for everyone-all males in my house--that I was really apprehensive about them returning the favor. But once I talked with them sincerely /with tears of course/ they really pitched in.
As far as meds go, everyone is soooo different. Our surgeries are different, our bodies, and our pain, our own reactions to medications. My doctor told me Dilaudin would knock me out flat--didn't phase me. My doctor told me to listen to my body--we are the ONLY ones who can do that--and that has really worked for me. DON"T overdo it--this is major surgery. I read somewhere(maybe on here) that people just don't get this is major!

Big Hugs,

Diane

Good for you! I can NEVER get through to my hubby. I was forced to go back to work after 2 and 1/2 weeks. Since I was able to go back to work - my hubby expects me to do everything else too. I will be 5 weeks post-op tomorrow, and he has not done 1 load of laundry, not scrubbed 1 toilet, and even tells me HE's tired, and would I cook him some breakfast!! I really REALLY want to give him a fist in the head sometimes.

But, then I know he just doesn't really understand.

When I've had my moments and just cry he tells me I'm hormonal (Ok - they left my ovaries), and I need to get some meds for that. I never took a percocet once home from the hospital - and only took ibuprofen for 1 week after I was home.

You are NOT a wimp!

I had a TAHBSO on 12/21 and for the last few days had only advil during the day and last night was the first night I went to sleep with regular tylenol and actually slept from 11-7 without a perc. But I do get confused with the pain thing....do I force myself to not take perc anymore so I can be alert to do more things, or take the perc so things don't hurt so I can try to do more things....generally I was taking have a perc like once a day, but was pretty non functional at that time. Am I still healing if I don't take a pain killer and can tolerate the mild pulling at the incision.....I feel very confused today....maybe the doc can clarify when I see him on Tues. Any thoughts? - Suzyq

From what I understand if you are not in pain your body can focus on healing itself. If you hurt take the drug, I go by my gut feeling on taking things. You are not suppose to be doing much of anything at this point. My DH is apparently very dear, because he will not allow me to do anything much at 8 wks.
He gets upset if I do the dishes, wash, floors etc. My dr. female, hyster too told him I was not to do and he took it to heart, and has guided me like a pitbull. I have loved all the special care. That is not my normal way of doing things. This is only 8 wks out of 23 yrs. he thinks I am worth protecting.
Somebody maybe the dr. needs to wise up some of these DH.
I just did the math 52 X 23=1196 wks. Yes he can give me 8. Do the math.

My dr allowed me to use hydrocodone as I needed it, but cautioned me strongly NOT to use it so I could do things I shouldn't be doing. At two weeks post op you shouldn't be doing anything that involves pulling, twisting, bending, etc. A pain pill isn't going to prevent you from hurting yourself.
Listen to your body and use wisdom in what you do. It will get better with time, but you need to be patient and not push yourself.
